Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I bet no one expected this question on a doodle forum :D

I am shopping for underwear for my 50lb goldendoodle who will be neutered next week. I have heard that boys underwear makes a good barrier to prevent messing with the stitches. But which one works better, tight fitting boxers or briefs?

Also does anyone have an underwear size recommendation for a 50lb goldendoodle?

I would love to see any doggy underwear pictures you might have too.

I never expected it, but I am delighted that it came up, lol!

Underwear, T-shirts, etc never worked for my dogs or fosters after surgery, so I can't be of much help. I always use cones, but NOT those horrible rigid hard plastic kind. JD a had BiteNot collar loaned to me by the shelter, and then I bought an inflatable one for my fosters, after the underwear and T-shirts didn't keep them from bothering their stitches

Thank you, this helps. I am glad to hear that the inflatable ones worked well for you. I did order one with the hope that it would do the job. Hopefully Cheddar will just be one of those dogs that will let it be.

And most of my dogs never bothered their stitches, but they were more puppy age - 6 months.  The older dogs I have been around seem more affected by the discomfort.  We had a foster that was able to work around the cone - soft and hard and get to the stitches and had to be restitched.  In summary, you may have not problems or lots and what you do for it really depends upon how seriously the dog chews - or tries to.  Didn't answer your boxer or brief question at all though.  I pulled these off the internet. With a tank top, briefs, boxers:

Haha I love those pictures! I am thinking some boxer briefs in a fun print may just be what I go with. If it doesn't help deter him from chewing, it will at least be good for a laugh.

Hi Beth!  A friend of ours let us borrow this outfit after Cooper got neutered.  It really helped because he hated the plastic cone and it broke our heart to see him in it.  lol.  Here is a picture of the outfit.  The second picture is of Cooper wearing my hubby's underwear.  lol.  He got razer burn on his butt one time from the groomer and we had to stop him from licking it.  We put the underwear on him and it helped.

So cute! And Cooper looks like he doesn't mind wearing them either.

Yeah, this caught my attention.  Actually, I have had some experience with this because my labradoodle had several surgeries.  I found that the sports bra was a better protection.  It has a poop shoot in the back and a pee area also.  You can get the little packages with three bras for less than $30 and they come in sizes.  My dog used a medium but he was 105 pounds.  I would suggest small for your 50 lb. goldendoodle.  They work so much better than cones.  I will try getting a photo of Hondo but I have to get it from my Maxtor.  Sorry, that is not a photo of his britches, just his box for his ashes.  They don't show the photos on Maxtor.  Okay, two tries, but not the photo I wanted.  You might try my photos on DK.  It may be there.  I checked and it is on page 2, #3139.  Worked great for us and you don't need to do anything when they need to go potty.

That is a genius idea! I found the picture you were talking about and it looks like it has the perfect coverage without needing to take it off for potty time. Thank you.

You bet, worked for us.

I think the tail out the flap works well.  But what about pooping?  I guess you would have to remove the shorts to use the bathroom facilities.

Those do look like a good fit, thank you for the sizing recommendation and pictures.

We tried boxer briefs, but didn't have the right size so it was a no go.
