and now I think he's feeling "off" to say the least.  On Saturday, my husband spent 10 hours slow smoking a pork butt.  The hubby and h is friends ate what they wanted and then returned to the kitchen to find Brinkley far reaching his doodle body so he could get to the remainder of the pulled pork.  Hubby put it up higher than normal but this was one determined doodle!!  Like I said, this happened Saturday-- it's now Tuesday and he really doesn't want to eat much. Is this normal this late in the game?  He seems a little sluggish but he'll heat a treat... he'll eat cheese... but he didn't want his food this morning.  He's seems more low key than normal-- sleeping more- but he still has pep when he's up.

He's pooping smaller logs (sorry TMI) than normal but he's still going.  We leave for a cruise on Friday morning and I really am hoping this is something that passes quickly and that it isn't more than an upset tummy. Would he still be feeling off three days later.  Last night was the first time we realized he was feeling off.

Geez.

So I shouldn't be worried that he runs from his water bowl?
My old golden retriever decided to have a fit about her water bowl.  It took awhile to figure out, but she decided that seeing her reflection in the bowl was unacceptable.  I thought the silver coated bowls were the best, she thought not!
Seriously!  Okay, well I will switch to a plastic one to see if that is it... but he's eating out of the same sliver one.
You don't want to use plastic bowls. If the dog doesn't like stainless steel, you can try ceramic. Plastic bowls are porous and can harbor bacteria.

Oh, okay. Thanks.

I'm really sorry that you got sick just when all this worry about your boy is happening. Feel better soon.
You can also give him pieces of popsicle - get an all natural kind, no "low sugar" with artifical sweeteners.  We have given those to Tack from time to time after he goes through a bout of not drinking water (usually after subcutaneous fluids).
I forgot to mention, he coughs after he drinks.  We checked for an obstruction and their isn't one.   He's coughed at times in the past when he drank but over the last couple days, he coughs after each time.
Brinkley is still running from his bowl.  Anything that has ice or water in it, he puts his tail between his legs and runs.  Like I said in a previous comment, he was given fluids two days ago and then they "topped him off" yesterday morning... but I would think he would want to drink some.  This is stressing me out as we leave tomorrow and I don't want to leave on vacation when he still isn't back to normal water intake.
When Tacky gets fluids, he usually doesn't drink a thing for about 24 hours, sometimes longer.  I would think Brinkley would drink some water later....hopefully!
Phew! Okay, that makes me feel a little better!
We just had our doodle at the emergency vet (ate an entire loaf of raisin bread) They kept him overnight, and had him hooked up to an IV for fluids...after he came home i was a nervous wreck b/c he would not drink..i would say it lasted about 3-4 days..i think the key is not to pressure them..i was adding ice cubes, chicken broth, etc and nothing worked..then one day, he just started drinking again! when they are hooked to the IV, the fluids are being absorbed, so there is more retention in the body..so I would not be alarmed yet
