And we're going to the vet very late this afternoon, but I wanted to see if anyone has had this with their doodles (or other dogs). I noticed it a week ago and it was a smallish bump on her beak (which is what we call the muzzle in my family, because we're weird and rename everything!). I called the vet about it and she advised me to watch it for a couple of days...and then we had an ice storm, so I kinda had nothing to do BUT watch the bump. It got a little bigger and changed from her regular skin color to a pinkish red and while it's hard to tell because of her fur, it looks like it has a "head" on it.

Is it maybe a spider bite? As horrifying as that is, it kinda looks like that (which means there's a spider in my house, available and brazen enough to bit my sweet Callie's beak! It feels very firm otherwise, and it's gotten fairly large, probably 4cm (again - we were iced in for 3 days and I had PLENTY of time to examine it. Never could get a good picture though!)

Just interested in y'all's take on what this MIGHT be. Thanks!

UPDATE:

The vet diagnosed this as a histocytoma. It's not fluid filled, but she drew out some cells with a syringe so she could examine them and make sure that they are benign (and it is completely benign). She said that it should go away on it's own within a few weeks but if it doesn't or if it grows bigger or changes shape then she would recommend removing it.

Callie was a total trouper through her exam and was rewarded with some chicken with her dinner.

My sister calls all the things that start growing on us folks of a certain age barnacles too.
I think it sounds like a bite of some kind.  But would def. take her to the vet.  I am not worried from your description (but no doctor, so who knows!)

I haven't reached all the way to "worry" yet...still at "concern"!

I wouldn't even venture a guess, but I'm hoping it turns out to be something entirely harmless. I'll be watching for updates.

Lucy also had a "histiocytoma" right in the corner of her eye.  I called the vet and she said to just watch it since we were getting ready in a couple weeks to come in for yearly appointment.  She looked at it then, and told me what it was and that it would go away.  Sure enough it did.  It started small and got a little bigger though.

What if you held a wram washrag on it?  Sometimes that will help it come to a head and drain if there is anything in it - ok that sounds kinda gross but I could not think of another way to phrase that!  I hope it turns out to be nothing :-)

That's exactly what I would do if it was on me!

I have no clue but hope it turns out to be nothing.  Keep us posted!
Penny has had a couple of bumps like that - both turned out to be cysts.  The vet ended up popping and draining them (sorry to be gross).  Fingers crossed that this is your case as well.  Keep us posted!
I did take a picture of Fudge's papilloma and can post it if it would help. Her growth looked like a piece of cauliflower and doesn't really sound like Callie's growth. Please keep us updated.
thank you for the update Frannie, glad Callie is ok...I tell you these scarey vet visits are enough to drive one to drink...Yeah a glass of nice wine is well deserved, you go for it girl....
Good news!
