We took Duke on a motorhome road trip out west for a couple of weeks. What a wake up call for a large doodle. Many campgrounds think fenced in 5' by 25' is big enough and walking trails need stones. He did not care to be away from home. He stayed on the couch while moving and kind of stubbornly wouldn't do any business when we stopped for him. Eating and drinking was a chore to get him to try, all he wanted to do is go home. We took him to many landmark sights that were dog friendly and he enjoyed that. We marveled at all the beautiful sights America had to offer. Duke only cared about pulling in our own driveway where he jumped for joy. Apparently nothing beats home sweet home.
My dogs were 'raised' and housebroken while on RV trips. Ned is our only one who really has trouble going potty on-leash. They love that they have our undivided attention but do seem very happy to come home.
I have never been on an RV trip, but that would beat camping in my book. Heck, I don't even like walking trails with stones. I think I would probably try an RV trip (once gas doesn't cost an arm and a leg). I think it would be a fun way to drive across the country. Good thing Duke enjoyed the landmark sights.
