Yesterday I had some family over and my aunt commented that she thought Daisy was already displaying signs of bad hips because of the way she walks. She does a sort of "sway" walk, where her hips move left and right as she walks around. Can this really be a sign of HD?? This made me really upset and I don't know whether she is clueless or I should be worried. :(

Marie, me too! LOL I walk like that too when I'm a little tired.

Jordan, my bet is Daisy is just fine :) She's adorable.  Keep us posted!

My 18 month GD sits on one side more most of the time, he will sit with both hips in too. He's had his preliminary testings done at 14 months, by a board certified vet, my GD has EXCELLENT DISPOSITION!!!!! When in doubt, get testing done. I get so sick of people telling me my dog sits funny and should have him checked until I throw his testings in his face. I will have his hips done again when he's over 2.

Hope his helps

My Wally's HD was discovered when he was a puppy during a regular vet exam. When his rear legs were extended, he complained very softly. X-rays confirmed the vet's diagnosis. When Wally walks, his gait definitely resembles that of Marilyn Monroe. If I remember correctly, the orthopedist said that swaying type of walk can be indicative of hip dysplasia. It's probably nothing, but it probably makes sense to speak with your regular vet about Daisy -- just to be on the safe side. Even with HD, Wally is totally fine. We keep him lean and well (but not overly) exercised. Please keep us posted.
