My little guy sits in a dog booster car seat, it is very similiar to a child's booster car seat, I seat belt the booster part in and then it has an harness attached to it that I hook him to with the harness he is wearing. He is to little not to be strapped in, one stop short episode and he can be really hurt.
Granted what I use is to small for your dog, but I would recommend the harness car seat strap. We need them to be safe while traveling too1
I have ones made by Canine Seat Covers.  I go through www.autoanything.com and order them.  They have several styles but I have always bought the "custom" ones that are made specifically for my car, year and model.  I am on my second car and second set of seat covers since getting Gracie Doodle and I love them.  I put them in the washer and hang them out to dry and they fit live a glove and nothing gets through to the seats.  Very expensive though if you get the custom ones!
The cover I have is really neat because it has velcro closures everywhere.  They are over every seat belt clicker to keep sand and dirt out when not in use.  I put my grandbabie's car seats in all the time when they visit...boosters too.  Very easy to do.  Just unvelcro and click. Plus, since their car seats are sitting on the canine cover the seats are protected from their dirt, food and spills as well!  I also have the 60/40 split seats.  I just unvelcro the long strip that defines the two seats and then I can flip back which ever one I want.  Very versatile seat covers.
I like the second option because it looks less slippery but also it appears it has seat belt slots and I can't tell on the other. I need to find something too but with baby car seats and all...I end up tossing in a towel when I take a dog for a ride. Easier to remove quickly...but it looks UGLY!
I bought a set a while back and ended up returning them because the were water "resistant" which meant if the girls got in and their feet were wet it just pooled up and then they sat in it and got all wet.  So now I just use an old quilt for when they are going to be in the car.

I am a quilt user too.  A small one for where Porter sits in a rear-facing captain's chair.

The kids have a yoga mat under their carseats, because to be honest, they are grosser than the dog.

I once found chicken bones in the slide-in-and-out drink holder on my oldest's booster seat.

Oh wait, maybe I am the gross one for letting my kids eat fried chicken in the car when we are on road trips.  But really it's all about doodle love.  I don't want to leave him in the car while we eat in a restaurant.

I have a car seat cover that looks exactly like the second one. I like it but I do cover the seat part with a sheet, which I can wash easily. The clasps on the straps that go over the headrests broke but small caribiners solved that Overall, it was reasonably priced and I like it.
i bought one soon as i got him  for the car waterproof it looks like the second picture  which its not to secure like the first one is but the second one which i have is good for a wet doodle if u take him out with u everywhere in which i do alot to bad he cant come in the stores  with me  lol
Whichever one survives the most washings.
