Hi all - I recently changed Ellie from Fromm's to Orijen. I did it because I think she was getting bored with Fromm. I thought I changed it gradually but I must not have because she's been getting diarrhea.

At first it was just soft stool but then it became bloody. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the food.

I'm trying to avoid going to the vet since I don't think they are going to tell me something I don't know. Is there any home remedies I can use?

Thanks for helping!

If it was just diarrehea, I would say add some pumpkin.  Straight Orijen Puppy food was too much for Rua and her poo's were really mushy.  I added some Acana to it and that firmed her up.  The bloody part, though, is what would worry me.  While not always serious, blood in poo means something is wrong.  If it was for more than a day, I would probably call the vet, and if nothing else bring in a sample.
When we switched Buddy to Orijen he had loose stolls and the pumpkin helped.  Soon his Orijen stools were firm without pumpkin.  If the loose stools and blood persist, see your vet or at least call them.  Typically blood (red) in the stools indicate extra strain (going a lot or if they feel they "have" to go they could be straining to get it out) when they go or collitis.  Better to be safe than sorry.

Oh no poor Ellie!  Peri wants her sis to get better soon!!!

Christine, I agree - if the blood continues, I would definitely take her in on Monday.  In the meantime, try adding some canned pumpkin.  The switch from grains to grain-free could be doing it....

When I switched Jackdoodle from Fromm to Orijen, he had loose stools for about 4 days before they firmed up (and remained very firm ever since). However, blood in the stool would not be caused by a food change. Blood in the stool is indicative of some other problem. If you're sure it's blood, I'd have a fecal done pronto.
Thanks everyone. I'll try giving her pumpkin and see if that helps her. She just went to the bathroom and had soft stool that was mucusy. I'll keep monitoring... I hope it's nothing serious.
