Chewie is almost 5 months and I notice when we give him something "harder" to chew, it seems to take him forever (he does eventually finish it). One example the other night was an all natural sweet potato chew (dehydrated). Even smaller (one bite) treats that are hard vs. the chewier ones, seem to get shifted around in him mouth a bit before finishing it.
He has already lost his front baby teeth and have his big boy teeth (incisors, not canines yet). What's the common timeframe on the back molars? I look back there and it seems to be a mixture of little teeth (a couple loose ones) and teeth that I see on the inside and outside of his gums, but not thru in the middle if that makes sense. I guess this combination of teeth could create some temporary chewing problems.
Well as long as there isn't an actual dental problem, I would think this is a good thing if he chew slowly...=)
You won't have to replace his chew toys as often =)
I would have my Vet check his puppy teeth to be on the safe side... the adult teeth are not growing in a side of his puppy teeth. If there is an adult tooth aside of a puppy tooth, they puppy tooth may need to be removed.
Has Chewie been neutered yet? If not, and they notice some baby teeth that must be pulled, they usually remove those when they are spayed/neutered. That is what my vet told me, but Peri didn't have any baby teeth left when she was spayed. You might not even need to have any pulled though.
