Well, is it too early?  I think October is a good month to gather addresses for e-mail card groups.  I don't want to mail (snail mail) cards, but I do make a list every year of people who would like e-mail cards.  It is so easy (and cheap) to do.  I do most of my personal cards this way.  Last year we were selling our house and moving out of state, but now we are settled.  Send me a message if you would like to be on a list for e-mail cards.
