Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

A while back we got our Goldendoodle Bella groomed. All we really wanted from the groomer was to just associate a good impression of the groomers on the dog, only a bath and some trimming around the paws and butt area and lots of kindness. She claimed to understand. Man did that groomer do a bad job. She was COMPLETELY uneven and totally cut incorrectly and stressed. It's still not right and looks horrible and its been about two or three months. Bella's coat is totally weird. It's like seven different colors. Now, I've heard most dood's go darker. Bella is going lighter, like white and she was generally blonder before, but down the middle of her back she is a rich auburn color like her mama. Her ears are still apricot and her legs are still blond.  She looks horrible. She's still cute, I don't think she can't be, but her coat is a mess. I'll try to post pictures after this so you get what I mean. Basically, I'm asking if this as happened to anyone else. Did your doodle's coat contain like seven different shades at once but only in predominant areas? She is not getting her adult coat yet but she is shedding slightly, not really much at all though. I don't know what to think. I feel really vain but it is troubling me to see how weird she looks. It's so many very different colors and I'm just wondering if anyone else can tell me what it will turn out to look like based on their doods. :).

Porter is black, brown, and white. He has a dark black stripe down the middle of his back (think reverse skunk) and piles of white on his ears and face. The multi-colored thing is something you will likely come to love.
Oh, I almost forgot. He also has a tube of white hair 1/3 a way down his tail--scratchy hair that he pulled out with his teeth and I had the groomer trim it...

Now, a bad haircut is another story :-)
Guinness is also multicolored. He is really white in some areas (like his tummy), cream in most areas, he has a wide apricot stripe down his back, and his ears are also apricot. I actually love it!
Those are such cute pictures Jane.
both my girls are multi-colored. Sophie apricot/cream/white and Lucy is black and silver with touch of brown. That is what makes are babies so unique is you just never know what you are going to get, but I've never heard anyone who didn't just love what they got. As for the bad haircut, the words no one wants to ever hear, but you see on here all the time is "It Will Grow Back". The coat change and the 1st haircut can make a lot of difference. I've seen a mostly apricot dog be cream after the first grooming and coat change! The Good News is, Bella is adorable!
Guinness, started to change after four months..and has been changed ever since. So now he's 15mths and has about 4-5 diff. colors. Sorry, I have heard you dye there coat.
What you are experiencing is pretty normal for a doodle...being a mix and all coats are rarely uniform.

Rosco's coat started to change at about 5 months when he started growing a coarser, darker section along his spine/tail. That has remained coarser when his coat is left long (soft when cut short). He has afro thighs, fleecy head and neck, wispy legs, coarse tail. It seems quite a few apricot/cream doodles end up with darker ears and that darker ridge on their backs...seems like it's part of the retriever half.
Finn has lots of colors as well. He has medium brown, very light brown, white highlights on his ears and some reddish hair. I love the different colors, it makes them very unique. I've had a few bad haircuts with Yankee. Hang in there....it will grow.
