My Doodles were in Day care for 1 day (each on a different) and they now seem to have come down with colds (lots of sneezing) and an upper respiratory condition. Their appetites are not there either. Is this important enough to get them to their vet? I never had a dog who had a cold. Also could this be a possible bordetella issue, although they are vaccinated against kennel cough? Any advice for me will be much appreciated. Thank you.
If they have lost their appetite and are having breathing issues I would take them to the vet even if the end result is just giving you some peace of mind. You can always call your vet, describe the symptoms, and see what they say before you actually make the trip.
The Bordatella vaccine isn't 100% protective because there are various strains of it. So it may or may not be that...worth at least calling the vet and asking =)
Thanks for the advice. I have made an appt. for the girls and the Dr. will see them tomorrow morning.
He said, with a discharge (they have runny noses), he should see them.
I am glad to see you made appts. for them. When there is any question, just take them, it doesn't hurt. I too have heard that dogs can come down with kennel cough even with the vac. Good luck and please let us know after their appt.
HI Geri, For kennel cough, I give the dogs benedryl so I can sleep. It seems to stop the coughing & eases their throat as well as giving me some sleep. The coughing was also causing my dog to vomit. The benedryl stopped that. I think by easing their throat and giving them a good nights rest, the course of the kennel cough seems to have been shortened. Puppy love from Joy & furry folk
Thank you for the information. I had the pups to the vet and they contacted the Canine Influenza. I had them in Puppy Daycare for a day, and it could have happened there. They are on their medicine and seem to be snapping back fast. I am so glad. Last night was the first good meal they ate since Saturday.
