Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was thinking that Harpo would be a fine "only dog", but now I am not so sure.  His friend Laila is staying with us for a while and they are so bonded that I question he could make it without her (or another pup).  Yesterday I took her for a walk around the neighborhood and he was frantic in the house alone.  They wrestle and play constantly.  So, anyone know of a dog that is available for rescue or rehome who would be a good companion for Harpo?  My breeder is breeding some sheepadoodles, but they will not be available for a year and that is a long time for a dog to wait for a companion.

I am thinking about the same thing for Archie.  He may need a partner in crime LOL

I think it is too long for Harpo to wait.  You realize he hasn't ever been an only dog.  We feel that Clancy was an only dog (and fine with being so) before he came to us, but he could not be one now. I think they get so used to  always having their buddy around that they can't  function properly without one.

Here is what I tell people looking for a rescue with the DRC

If you are interested in adoption be sure to read our DRC ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. http://doodlerescue.org/notes/DRC_ADOPTION_POLICIES_AND_PROCEDURES. If you haven’t already filled out an application, be sure to get one on file. You can find the application at the top of any page.
Here are some additional ideas for finding a rescue doodle:
1. Here is an interesting article that points out dog breed differences genetically, especially mixed breed dogs like doodles: http://www.animalfarmfoundation.org/pages/Multimedia-Infographics
2. Here is an article on what a doodle really is: http://doodlerescue.org/group/isadoodleforyou/forum/topics/what-is-...
3. Here is a helpful article on how to find a doodle on Petfinder and in shelters: http://doodlerescue.org/group/isadoodleforyou/forum/topics/looks-li...
4 PETFINDER (putting in all zip codes within your driving distance) as well as possible dog breeds that could be doodles starting with poodle which will include poodle mixes; Sometimes doodles are listed as terrier mixes;
5. GOOGLE in shelters and humane societies within your driving range. Check their sites often.

I think Lynda didn't make it clear. She has two dogs but one is quite ill.

Actually, F, Groucho Too passed away last week.  We now have Laila staying with us for a companion to Harpo.  She has stayed with us many times while her family is traveling and they are very well matched.  So, we have one ALD at present.

OMD Lynda....I am so sorry!  I don't know how I could have missed that!  My very deepest sympathies to you and yours.  So thankful, you have Harpo to help you heal.  ((HUGS))

I am so sorry Lynda. I knew Groucho Too was ill but I did not know he died. I am glad Laila is helping Harpo.

Lynda, I am so sorry to hear about Groucho Too. My thoughts are with all of you!

Lynda, I'm so sorry to hear about Groucho Too.  You must be heartbroken...

So very sorry Lynda...my heart just aches for you and Harpo...I really hope that you can find a sweet rescue that will be yours and Harpo's companion and will hopefully help to fill a void that Groucho Too left...my deepest sympathies and my thoughts are with you...sending doodle hugs your way:(

Lynda - I just read this post and wondered about Groucho Too.  I am so sorry - I didn't realize that he passed away!  Please know that you and Harpo are in my thoughts and I hope you find a companion for both of you soon!  Hugs!

I'm so sorry Lynda, I also did not know Groucho Too had gone to the Bridge. May he rest in peace.
