Maggie just had her spay completed...she's having hard time with the cone...does anyone have alternative suggestions to this? Anyone try a onesie?

Thank you.

I don't know about the onesie but the cone only lasted two days here before Max somehow started to eat it, so I just gave up and luckily he left his incision alone. I know a lot of people have had luck with those soft cones, have you tried one of those?

Not yet, I am in the process of trying to figure out what to do next! Thank you for the suggestion!

Onsie

When my foster was spayed, I had no luck at all with the onesies, or any other kind of clothing. Men's shorts, T-shirts, I tried everything, and she still managed to get to her incision. I ended up buying an inflatable collar, and that worked beautifully. She was much more comfortable in it, could eat drink and even sleep comfortably in it, it did no damage to my walls, and it prevented her from getting to her stitches. It is a small investment, but I feel that in any dog's life, there is apt to be another occasion where they will need to be prevented from biting or licking themselves. :)

=) thank you, I had been considering this, but she has been known to chew/bite through 1) collar, 2)crate bedding 3)carpet (although this was when she was teething - and she hasn't chewed anything since)...so, I am unsure about the inflatable thing...but worth the look!

Thank you!

Hi Debbie,  I shared some photos of Charlotte wearing a Onesie after she was spayed. You can find the pictures and the accompanying discussion here:  Wearing Her Onesie - DoodleKisses.com  At bedtime or if I needed to go out, she actually wore two Onesies, doubled up!  Maggie will be back to herself before you know it.

Oh my, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for!!! thank you so much for posting the photos...I wasn't sure how to even put on Maggie!!!  So, I am assuming that you just unsnapped the onesie so she could go potty? did it get in way when she went potty?

Thank you so much!

Debbie

I unsnapped it (them), and then tucked the extra fabric back under the part that was closer to her head. Instead of rolling or folding it up, I tucked it under -- sort of how you'd fold down a turtleneck sweater, but the opposite, going under, instead of over.

My Harper wore a onesie as well. It was a miracle worker for her! She hated the cone and loved her onesie :)
Riley's nose was too long for the soft cones but her neck was too small for the plastic cone. We ended up with the plastic one on the inside and soft on the outside. It was the only way we could find to keep something on her. She chewed the plastic a little so we tried to spin it so she couldn't chew the edges. Wish I had known about onesies. If anything they are adorable! Hope things are going better!

Thank you!

So, here's what happened...Maggie is too long bodied for the onesie...she's only 22 #'s but she is very LONG....so, I ended up not putting anything on her and just telling her to "leave it"...fortunately she has been focusing on the patch of fur missing on her arm (where the IV was) so, she is healing nicely - no redness! Now the challenge is keeping her from over exerting...sigh...she's a handful =)

Our Vet advised against a onsie or any kind of clothing, saying the incision needed to breathe.also said any type of covering tended to irritate the stitches if it rubbed. So we used a softcone similar to this one: http://www.amazon.com/Contech-ProCone-Recovery-Collar-Large/dp/B005...

It worked out well, as she could actually use the cone as a pillow.
