Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I just heard a sad story about a little mini goldendoodle, Ruby, who is believed to have been killed by a coyote in a northern Westchester town. Apparently there has been several incidents.
We are not directly in that area, but anyone who is should be on alert. So sad!

In my area, there have been a few small dogs attacked by coyotes and killed or severely injured, and even some larger dogs who were attacked by coyotes. In every case, the dog was alone in an unfenced yard with an electric fence. The most important part of the video is at the very end: Do not leave your dog alone outside in an unfenced area ever, especially if you have an electric fence. Electric fences keep your dog in, but they don' t keep the coyotes out, and then your dog is a sitting duck who cannot even run to keep from being attacked.
How sad for those owners...I can't even imagine it. This is really good information and a great reminder. We have had sightings in our area over the years.
how scary and sad for the owners or Ruby. I dont think the coyotes will make it down to nyc, but a good reminder for westchester folks.
We have also had coyotes in the city of Chicago proper; one of them walked into a busy sandwich shop. And one got on a subway car, I forget in what city.
A teenage girl was bitten in a park in my neighborhood a couple years ago :/
I can often hear coyotes howling/yipping at night if I leave my windows open... I would NEVER leave my dog unsupervised outside in an unfenced area, especially knowing there are coyotes around.
This is so sad and my heart hurts for the family of Ruby.
That's so sad.
Don't get too secure feeling with a 6 ft. fence. These suckers can jump! We had one in our neighborhood a few years back and had to hire a private hunter to track it down. There were "lost cat" and "lost dog" signs posted everywhere around our neighborhood which was so sad. We found cat remains in our yard that were our neighbor's cat and we have a 6 ft. fence and driveway gate. And our fence is solid wood! Only way in is to jump so be aware!!
We hear coyotes frequently at night. They are running rampant in my county. They killed some of my neighbor's goats a couple of weeks ago.
Several years ago there was one in my driveway near the house. It was about 1:00 AM. I could see it clearly from an upstairs window.
We have a lot of them in and around Lima Ohio. They come into the cities. I lived on a farm for seven years and I heard them all the time.Lots of dogs were attacked.
