Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all,
Scanning petfinder has become quite a habit even since we got our goldendoodle. Today I noticed 5 9 week old puppies listed on petfinder from Double Dog Rescue as labrador retriever/poodle mixes. After looking at all of their pictures, all of them do not strike me as possible doodles at all. My only concern is that so many people want a doodle for the low-shedding coats or for the reputation that our loveable doodles have. If these truly aren't doodles, I fear they will end up back in various shelters in no time. Any thoughts?

Possibly have multiple fathers. The first one might have poodle or terrier...but no on the rest. The darker ones especially have the wrong heads and ears for a retriever or poodle.

Can u call or email them to see what they know of the parents? Tell them MOST are not lab-poodle mixes...not with pointy ears.
Jacquie already spoke to the shelter.
I agree, they look more like shepherd/lab mixes to me??
I sent an email to Double Dog Rescue asking for any information they have on the parents. We will see if they get back to me. They do not accept phone calls so email was my only option.
Jacquie already spoke to the shelter.
I also received a response from the shelter in regards to my request for more info. This is what she had to say:

I have explained to every person who contacts me that I am in no way guaranteeing that they are labradoodles. The family that surrendered them claims to have both parents. My vet clinic acted as the go-between on this owner surrender, I will pay to have both of them altered but will never meet them. I also tell people that if they are looking at these for any particular quality such as low allergen or low shedding, they need to contact another group that has more assurance. I see that it's possible these pups might be low "mix" doodles but as an all breed rescue, I never guarantee any breed mix and am more than up front with potential adopters.
We place about 100 pups every month and feel like our less than 1% return rate is directly attriibuted to our very honest and very determined effort to make the best match possible for pup and family.
Thank you for your concern but I think your time will be better spent elsewhere.
I think rescues are usually very good about being upfront on this issue. When we adopted our Shih-tzu mix, they were very clear that she was a mix with a shedding dog.
Sounds reasonable to me! Except the attitude in the last sentence - what's up with that?!?!? If you just requested more info, why would they be upset?! Weird!
I think they just got defensive because I asked them for information on the parents out of concern that they didn't have the typical features of a labradoodle. They probably know that by putting lab/poodle mix they are going to attract a lot more attention and then they explain that they aren't necessarily labradoodles with the low to no shed qualities. I was very polite in my email and just said I wanted to make sure these puppies went to the right homes and that's why I was asking what they knew of the parents. Oh well...
This is a private rescue consisting of two women with a network of volunteers; all are unpaid & very short on time. Most people working as volunteers in rescue are extremely overworked and the work itself is very sad & very frustrating. They have a huge number of wonderful dogs who have no home, through no fault of their own, that are sitting in foster/shelter situations for months, and then when a "non-shed" breed comes in, or a litter of adorable puppies, the e-mail boxes are filled to overflowing with inquiries. Having done this kind of work myself, I know that many of those inquiries are not as polite as yours, many people ask silly or unanswerable questions. Asking questions about shedding is kind of like chalk on a blackboard to an experienced rescue worker. If you look at the number of dogs they are trying to find homes for, you can certainly understand how their patience might run short at times.
