I have moderate allergies and the breeder I am getting a pup from has said that curlier coats are better for people with allergies. Is this at all true??
It is mostly true. The curlier coats tend to have more poodle characteristics overall, but it is no guarantee. You can still have allergies to dander and saliva, so it really depends on what you are allergic to. I recommend all our clients to meet the specific pup and test it out. Also, things can change when the adult coat comes in. Do you have to option of meeting adult offspring from a revious litter? I have found this to be very helpfull.
I have allergies to dogs and my guy has a loose wavy combo hair/fleece coat that sheds a little (mostly in the brush). He does not bother me at all. For me its the dander, not the fur and it triggers my asthma symptoms. Not sure that low shedding equals low dander or what, but I have never noticed dander on my guy.
My miniature fleece coated dog doesn't shed and so far no allergies. But, he is a F1b second generation so he has a lot of poodle in him. Check with the breeder. I know the breeder could tell what type of coat my puppy would have. My Yogi isn't that curly. His neck and face seem to be curlier than the rest of him. He is only 6 months old so time will tell, Good luck in your search,
