During the rainy season in the Pacific NW sometimes you're stuck walking the pooch or going to the dog park in some pretty wet & boggy conditions. Not exactly conducive to prolonged longevity for leather goods. We have the Planet Dog hemp leash & collar with the comfortable fleece handle & collar lining but the leash is too short & you have to unhook it to tie your dog up to a post if you're going into a store which is an added hassle. I'm also not a fan aesthetically of the plastic quick-release buckle.
We found this seller on etsy.com but she also has her own site themodernpet.com which has more items. Asked her to customize her 1 inch wide hemp leash for us by making it longer: 5 1/2 feet + a 6 inch leash handle that attaches to the body of the leash using the same type of nickel hardware clip that attaches to the dog's collar. This gives me enough slack for Oski to snuffle things as we walk & if he's walking close to me I hold the leash handle in one hand & grab the slack in the other hand so I can give him a quick correction jerk to keep him from running at a squirrel before he launches himself, LOL. When I go to the bakery or grocery store, I just unclip the leash handle from the body & re-attach it around a pole with 3 seconds flat. The leash handle D-ring attachment site is also handy for attaching his poop bag dispenser too!
The matching collar 1 inch wide has a quick-release buckle using the same nickel hardware & is adjustable as well as coming in three neck sizes: M (13.5-19.5" neck), L (16-24"), XL (17.5-28). Both have gotten thoroughly soaked in downpours with no shrinking or bleeding of colors & dry fairly quickly. Hemp is very durable & even when Oski plays tug of war with the leash he hasn't frayed any of it. They weren't cheap: $45 for the customized leash & $32 for the collar but they'll lash a long time & are very functional so two dew claws up!
