Many of you know that Noah was not the puppy I was supposed to get, but Delta Airlines switch Noah and his littermate during a layover.  How this happened no one really knows, but the puppies were in the correct crates when the breeder left them at the airport.  Delta compensated me and made me sign an agreement not to sue them.  I just came across this story regarding a dog that Delta lost. Please be very careful when you fly your pet and do not use Delta.  I have not flown Delta since they sent me the wrong dog, nor will I ever use it again after reading this story.  Fortunately my story has a happy ending as Noah turned out to be an incredibly sweet and amazing dood, and hopefully this lost dog will have a happy ending as well.

Has anyone used or know of any who has had their dogs fly with Pet Airways? Just curious.
Yeah seriously!
Sad to say that my gut says that someone stole their dog because they thought he was so cute. I never would have even thought of that until I got this email from Liz - National Transport Coordinator for Doodle Rescue Collective. This story is just disgusting and scary!

RESCUE DOGS STOLEN DURING TRANSPORT
By Elizabeth Sullivan Syring / Doodle Rescue Collective

Jane Heatherington of Pittsburgh has been rescuing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for over 20 years and is located in Western PA. The past month has tested her strength and dedication to saving Cavalier spaniels (and other animals) in need.

In early April, 2010 Jane was coordinating a PilotsNPaws transport of a rehomed 1 1/2 yr old Cavalier named Cody who needed transportation from South Dakota to Pittsburgh. In Cedar Rapids, IA he was planned to stay overnight with a local graduate student. This foster decided to keep Cody despite no transfer of ownership to her. When this foster claimed the dog was “too ill to travel” with diarrhea, Jane postponed the morning flight from Cedar Rapids to Pittsburgh. Over the next 5 days the foster increasingly claimed illnesses that were not observed by three veterinarian visits. By the fifth day, Jane instructed the foster to take Cody to the veterinarian for admission and overnight observation. During the entire time of admission, Cody received a clean bill of health, however the foster hired an attorney to gain custody of Cody. The veterinary hospital refused to release Cody until proper ownership of Cody could be proven. Despite Jane providing the written transfer of ownership to her, the foster arrived with a court order and Sheriff to seize Cody. The Order was obtained without any mention to the court of the existence of Jane, Cody’s actual owner. Jane has hired an Iowa attorney to represent her to secure release of Cody. A court date of May 24, 2010 has been set.

Around the same time, Jane received information requesting that she rescue a Cavalier at a Portland Oregon Animal Shelter. The dog, now called Emmett, was a severely ill and emaciated 3yr old Cavalier. He was near death. The Shelter conveyed ownership to Jane and released him. Jane arranged for a foster volunteer to care for Emmett in Portland until he was strong enough to travel to Pittsburgh. A pilot who volunteers with Pilots N Paws asked to foster him. In that week, the pilot took Emmett to his own vet without first consulting Jane. The pilot ordered his vet to “work him up.” After a few days, Jane changed Emmett’s foster home. During these weeks, Jane and the second foster parent worked together and vet care proceeded to determine the nature of Emmett’s health problems. He even underwent a rhinoscopy to remove long standing extensive infected tissue throughout his nasal cavities. His health improved and his weight increased. However, the former foster parent/pilot wanted ownership of Emmett and continued contact with the second foster.

Also in contact with Emmett’s former foster was the Iowa graduate student who had fostered Cody, the Cavalier in Iowa. She contacted numerous parties in an effort to disparage Jane and gain support to hold Cody. Before long, an Oregon attorney contacted Jane trying to take permanent custody of Emmett.

As a rescuer who transports dogs from all 50 states, this scenario strikes fear in my heart. If “rescue volunteers” can so easily steal dogs from rescue programs all our efforts are in jeopardy. Long distance transporting is often the only salvation for thousands of dog from death. If we are going to continue our mission of saving homeless dogs we need to ensure the court system does not allow volunteers to blatantly steal dogs during transport.

Please support Jane in her quest to have her two rescue dogs returned to the safety of her program.

WOW-I did not know your story! Yhe first pups I ever shipped were switched too. A boy and a girl in seperate crates with their gender specific names on the crates. Had a layover and they obviously put the pups in the same kennel-then the next day took them out and put in wrong carriers. One was microchipped (one was not at owners request). Unfortunately the owners didnt notice the had the wrong sex for two weeks and by then neither wanted to give up their puppy. I cant believe it happened to you too!!
I've been thinking about what happened with Noah, and I'm more convinced than ever that many times our dogs just find us. With both of my guys it seemed like that was true. Jane, you and Noah are so perfect together, I just have to believe it was meant to be.
Jane, Exactly why you didn't get your little girl, Murphy was waiting on you!
I've thought of that so often. Remember how disappointed I was about Izzy...I should have just trusted that she was not the dog that was meant for us. Murphy and Guinness are so happy and perfect together. This was a good life lesson for me. I have a tendency to be very impatient...need to be a little better at just letting life happen. Still learning these lessons at my "advanced age". LOL
Oh yes, the Irish bros were meant to be, just like Noah was meant for Jane and Sherlock!!!
We should start a discussion " MISTAKES That are meant to be"

Spud certainly was not what I had in mind. The other day I met a dood that I thought would have been the perfect dood if I had a choice. Huge, soft, with a face to die for.... and then suddenly my little Spud came up to me and for some reason did the lean into my leg--which he rarely does, as if to say, " but Mom, I really love you" I walked away with the dog I was meant to have.

My second dood would have been red! Yes Red. Now does Starlit look red to you? For over a year I wanted a red. I was even first on the waiting list to get the only red for a littler born April 1st.

But shy and messed up Starlit was meant to be. She so much needed a strong and confident brother to break her from her insecurities with the world.

My DH and I actually had this conversation the other night. For some reason she is in the right house with the right sibling.

All is right in the doodle world :)
