Another inspiring dog story.
Mr. Gibbs ROCKS! What a darling pair they are! Just watched the video and am amazed!!
I saw it, how amazing! Mr. Gibbs is a great example of the doodle breed (mixed breed, mutt, whatever!).
Just watched it online now. What a good doodle and a cute little girl.
Mr Gibbs and Alida are both totally adorable! Looks like a match made in heaven. I don't imagine most children develop the kind of bond that will exist with these two.
I read an article about Mr. Gibbs and loved it.......and then I saw the video from the Today Show and read this link.

You can clearly see why agencies won't work with children so young. The little girl is adorable and is acting like a typical toddler. I don't blame the child for her actions. The trainer should know better then to put such a young child in charge. When I send a puppy home with a family I specifically tell them NOT to let children train or give commands. Dogs see children as equals and it's not fair to the dog to be trained by a child with a high pitch voice. Dogs rely on the tone and inflections in our voice. Obviously a child, especially a little girl has a high tone at all times. I personally don't like the use of prong/shock collars. Doodles typically are eager to please and don't need such force used. Positive training is ALWAY'S best!
April, I think you make some very good points!! Thank you for making me think beyond the cuteness!
I read this article too and it was so helpful to understand a bit more of the signals Mr Gibbs was sending out. The story pulls at our heart-strings so I think its helpful to read this article too, April.
Thanks for pointing this out, April. I really felt bad for the dog.
It's also interesting that there is no registered service dog organization employee or trainer with the name mentioned in the article. No record of this person anywhere other than this article, in fact.
I am amazed by Mr. Gibbs. I loved how the little girl was holding his paw in the beginning of the video.
I saw the article - AMAZING...... awesome doodle but then again all doodles are awesome !!! :)
