WE HAVE A 4 MONTH OLD MINI AND HE IS VERY STRAIGHT - UNLIKE OUR STANDARD GOLDENDOODLE WHO IS VERY CURLY. DID ANYONE HAVE THEIR MINI CURL UP AFTER THEIR PUPPY FUR FALLS OUT?
It's not a mini issue, it's a doodle thing. :o) Many, especially F1's take time for their coat to come in. Most goldendoodles will get a thicker, wavier coat as they grow. This is the same puppy....
The F1 coat can very greatly though. These are siblings....
You'll have to wait and see how his coat ends up. My guess is that it will get at least a little more curl/wave. The above girl did.
Samantha is a Standard F1 LD. Her puppy coat was straight and smooth like a Lab. As it grew in her hair was 'coarse' and she had more of cow lick waves than wavy; they were from her her shoulders foward to her neck. At a year, (last week) I trimmed her to a puppy coat - about 1.5" long. Her coat is straight - except from her shoulders foward and it is much softer. Those cow lick waves are still there and her head gets a little curly when wet. I kept waiting for the curls to come in but they never did. I have several pictures on my page if you want to see. The new ones with her trim have not been uploaded yet - should be in a couple of days.
The best part is that she doesnt have knot much less mat!!!!!
In the grooming group I think I read that fur gets curlier as they change from puppy to adult. I remember it because my dood's fur was fairly curly and has gotten curlier as he has grown. He is 11 months and apparently in the process of "blowing his puppy coat" so I am not sure what he will end up with but it is curlier than it was. Like April said, the generation of the dog may make a difference.
