Discoloration around the mouth of my cream Goldendoodle.

Does anyone know how to remove the discoloration around the mouth of a cream Goldendoodle?

I'm not sure about removing, but I read somewhere when Sawyer was little to give him only filtered water. The theory being it's the metals and whatnot in unfiltered water that causes the staining around their mouths and eyes. Sawyer still has a little bit darker fur around his mouth but only when he's just had water and it's wet. He's currently 4 years old. Hope that helps!

It helps somewhat to use only stainless steel food and water bowls, and to wash them with soap and water daily. Saliva stains the fur, so a certain amount of discoloration is inevitable, even on darker dogs. 

But Jack is apricot cream and has no staining around his mouth, and he gets plain old tap water.

That's interesting! We do use stainless bowls and wash them daily as well. Maybe it's a combination of things.

I think it's an individual thing just like tartar on teeth. Calla has terrible tartar but really no perioral staying on her white fur. Just the opposite is true for Luca. They eat and drink the same things including tap water.

When I pick my boys up from the groomer, she has worked her magic and their faces are clean and fresh. As the month goes on, they get more and more stained.
