Maggie got cut too short today and the groomer blamed it on her collar. She said when she cut the mats out around her collar it looked stupid and she had to take her body shorter. She's not naked, but she's definitely shorter than I wanted.

And the groomer's last day was today. That's the second groomer I've lost in a year. And I almost had this one broken in! I guess we're on the search again. It really stinks. The one that's being recommended by facebook will have me driving 50 miles for grooming. I mean, I am considering doing the 17 hour round trip monthly for our original groomer... but 50 miles seems excessive for anyone else.

I guess Ned’s green neck after running through the sprinklers was mold rather than staining from the dye on his collar. :-).  (maybe it’s only cheap collars )

Reviving this discussion since Riley managed to snap the D-ring off her collar on Canada Day while playing with a friend...For now I've just put a "quick link" connector (usually used for chain) on her collar to replace the D-ring but it's kinda flimsy and it can come undone so I don't want to rely on it for long.  Riley is such a bruiser lol...and a clumsy one.

I kind of want to get her a rolled leather collar but I've only been able to find the buckle variety so I'm thinking Biothane.  Either that or I'll just buy a new nylon collar from a different seller and brush out her neck more often :p

For those of you who have purchased Biothane collars in your opinion what's a "good" price to pay for one?  I'll expect about 30% more expensive in CAD but just trying to get a ballpark of what's a fair price since I may end up purchasing on Etsy.

Willow's was 36.00 with the engraving and the stainless steel hardware. She can also engrave the rivets with paws or hearts, and I thought that was cute, but not cute enough to spend 7.00, especially since she's so hairy you can't really see it. She also does really fancy collars with crystals, but again hair. There were cheaper options, but I really liked the way the name and phone number looked on the collar keeper.

There is another collar lady I follow on facebook called No Ruffs, and I'm sort of obsessed with them. They are just gorgeous. But they're really pricey. This one was $215. As much as I would like to do it, I just can't justify spending that much. Maybe if I had short haired dogs.

Ok, I can't get the image to upload right now, but trust me, they're pretty.

thanks!  Yeah not much point having a pretty collar with  super shaggy monster, can't see it anyway.  I guess maybe they aren't more expensive in Canada as I expected, they seem to be around $35-50.

I'll talk it over with DH and we will see.  We are leaking money like crazy these days with the baby so trying to be frugal where we can lol.

I feel you on the leaking money and I don't even have a baby! These girls are high maintenance. This week alone is 2 bags of dog food, Willow to the vet for flea and heart worm meds, Maggie to the vet for a bordatella shot, Maggie to the groomer. It all adds up. Without them I would be almost rich! I would also be sad, lonely, and bored. They're worth it. But this time they didn't get 3 extra toys at the store. They already have more toys than they know what to do with!

The dog is as bad or worse than the baby! Recently a life jacket, a ramp for the pool(it isnt even our pool it's grandma's), a new giant sized nylabone, now a new collar and her Fromm kibble is over $100 a bag.  Pricey pooches :p

This is why every time I see someone ask "How much is the adoption fee?" as their first question on a rescue dog post, I really want to say "If you have to ask, you can't afford to own him."

People complain about the price of well bred dog but it's really so small compared to upkeep costs.

You are so right on this. I've been trying to track my spending better, because I keep thinking I should have more money than I do. It turns out those little trips to the convenience store for snacks really add up. But really, it's all the girls. Food, vet, grooming, training, insurance. I bet I spend that adoption fee on them monthly! It's a good thing they're cute.

Hot Dogs All Dressed is in Canada.  It is where I order my water collars from.  https://hotdogsalldressed.com/products/collars/  I don't know if they have quick release ones.  They will totally personalize your order.  I have been buying narrow width collars for all three of my doodles because the wear them 24/7 with ID. We order extra length for all three dogs.  For walks, we add Martingale collars on Clancy and Charlie.  I got an e-mail inquiry inquiring what dog I would be putting such a narrow collar on. I explained in a return e-mail, and I got exactly what I wanted.  I'm pretty sure PoochieMama has both quick release and id on the collar.

Thank you that sounds great! I've decided I'm going to hold off on a fancy collar for a bit because I'm not sure she is at her final neck size (she probably isnt, just turning 1 this month). I'll get another silly off brand nylon collar to tide us over for now.
