Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Doodle lovers! I'm buying a Sheepadoodle puppy and am having difficulty deciding between two pups. I prefer the shaggy look as opposed to the poodle look in an adult dog. One of the pups appears to have a wavy coat that I'm thinking will be more shaggy when he grows up and the other one has a curlier coat that I'm thinking will end up being more poodle like. I'd like to get some of your opinions as to whether you think I'm correct in this evaluation? Thanks so much for your time!...Donna Lee

Good to know...I do all my own grooming so that's why I'm being so particular about choosing a puppy with a coat that isn't super high maintenance. Thanks for telling me about the Grooming group...I'll check it out! I have a Teddy Bear that requires fairly frequent grooming because his coat is constantly growing. I keep his coat a little longer in the winter but whatever puppy we get will have to maintain a much longer coat in the winter since he'll be outside more. Here's another pic of the puppies showing more of their coats...would you mind telling me which one Cocoa resembled as a pup?

Cocoa resembled the puppy on the left. If you look at the photos on my page you can see her puppy coat.
Yes I can see that...thx so much...Cocoa is a beauty!

I don't think I understand, what does 'advertise them soon' have to do with your choice? Just curious.  Are they not being advertised already?  A reputable breeder won't choose families for a dog based solely on looks before temperament and personality have come through.  A reputable breeder is too concerned with making a proper match to let people pick their puppy at this age.  Have you considered our "What to Look for in a Breeder" checklist to be sure this breeder is doing things reputably?

The breeder is actually a distant acquaintance of mine and is not pushing me to make a decision. She was nice to let my family come by to see the pups. The owner of the stud dog is a very good friend of mine and he's a wonderful dog. I met the dam and she was a super personable poodle. The puppies are raised in their home and have been given lots of daily love and human interaction. I talked to their vet and they said she is a very conscientious and responsible animal owner with good quality dogs. At this point Im getting pick of the litter because I'm the first one to see them but she's probably going to advertise them soon so Id like to make a decision. Maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit because as you said, the personalities are just starting to come out. I'm actually not super concerned about the personality though...every puppy I've raised has been playful and responsive to loving guidance. We live on a small farm where there are plenty of fun activities for an active dog so we would be fine with an alpha type dog or a mellow dog. Our other dogs are neutered (except for our 8 month old Bouvier mix...waiting until he's a year old if possible) and get along great with other dogs and animals...I'll post a pic of them. The only personality trait that I would not want is a shy or fearful pup and both of these pups were engaging, friendly and sweet...although the curly one was more gregarious! Anyway, thanks so much for your help and telling me about the checklist!

I got Orwell through a similar situation. My high school English teacher wanted a litter of puppies so he got a good certified stud from a local breeder to be a match for his dog. He has made sure that he can keep in contact with all the buyers of his litter, though.

Thanks so much for your help!

Can I just vote for the guy on the right? His speckled nose is just way too precious!

Here is your pic:

Personally, I like the large amount of white on the head of the one on the left. (: Also, his nose is a little speckled.

Yeah, I like his facial markings better too. I think all of their noses should turn all black eventually.
Yeah, he's a cutie...such a tough decision!
Cocoa had hair just like the pup on the right, and now she has a wavy coat with curls, but not a tight wool coat. I've attached a picture of her fur now, but I'm on my iPad, so you'll have to open the attachment.
