Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My mini doodle, Hank, is 12 weeks. He stays outside in the courtyard during the day and only comes in at night to sleep in his crate. He likes being outside where he can run and play which seems normal to me. I was raised with outside dogs. Hank is my first puppy on my own. At first, I thought I would try to keep him inside, but the potty training got to be too much for me since I have a mobility impairment, and my reaction time is slower than normal. He has never had an accident in his crate, doesn't cry at night, or need a potty break in the middle of the night. Please don't think I'm a horrible person. I love Hank as much as an inside dog owner. Just wonder if anyone else has an all or primarily outside doodle? Does anyone's doodle sleep outside? If so, how does that work out for you? Basically, I think I have one good puppy! Just want to make things as happy for him (and me) as possible. Thanks for any feedback or insight you have to share. Hope I don't end up feeling guilty about considering having him sleep outside. I really do love my puppy. Honest. I do.

BG just keep keeping me up to date will you...so I don't get upset over the wrong thing :) I need to keep my upsets to the right things :) The kids left and got married and now I'm at a loss...
Finn would thank you for the hugs, himself, but he went to bed hours ago LOL
I got your back Cheryl :)
Yes Laurie, I suspected you were imagining something from the Brothers Grimm and misreading the meaning of this internet slang word :)
Oh you just wait. One minute with your doodle and you will be a goner!
Leaving this dog outside is not okay. Be responsible and housebreak and train this poor pup or give him up. I don't know how to say it any other way.
Timing is everything. Our lifestyle was not conducive to having a puppy/dog for many years due to our work and social schedule so...we had a cat. We had to wait for the timing to be right as we knew that we had to do the very best by a dog including training and exercise. Getting up in the middle of the night and pulling myself out of bed at 6am in 20 below weather because I knew I had to get a good long walk into my pup so that he would eat well and rest easy until someone could come home and spend time with him at lunch was NOT easy. Obligations rarely are. But we all survived and are better for it.
Please evaluate whether the timing is right for you and you can do right by this puppy or you should allow him to go to someone who will. Re-evaluating is ok because sometimes we make decisions with our hearts, not our heads.

This doesn't seem like she was considering it, seems it was a done deal.
She was considering leaving Hank out overnight and stated he is out all day!
Laurie, look at the first few pages of responses. Everyone tried very hard to reach out and be helpful, although we were appalled. It was only after much time went by with no response, and then a response that was basically saying "This is what I'm doing whether you like it or not", followed by defensiveness and accusations that the rest of us are "helicopter" parents that people became exasperated.
I just reread the original post again Laurie and I don't feel like I missed the mark. I also do not think it was a simple question. In fact I think it was a loaded question, thus the passionate responses.
Good night hugs everyone... Its just past midnight in NY and my puppy gets neutered early in the morning so off to bed.
.I'm glad the vibe is mellowing here in this doodleland thread.
Good luck, hope it goes well.
