Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

http://www.dianeklumb.com/home.html

I WANT TO START THIS CONVERSATION BY SAYING, I'M NOT TRYING TO OPEN A BUCKET OF WORMS HERE OR SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT THIS BOOK AS I HAVEN'T READ IT, I'M JUST CURIOUS TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS READ IT?

I got an e-mail this morning from Doodle World (which by the way I'm never on I just registered one day because someone asked me to or invited me to join.  I don't even remember who).  Anyway, it was telling about this new book on "Everything you ever needed to know about goldendoodles" by a Diane Klumb I believe her name was.  I'm really curious to read it, but it is $24.99 for a paperback and isn't available as an e-book so I'm not too interested in spending that much money if it isn't a wonderful book chock full of info that somehow I haven't learned here.  Instead of just reading the amazon site I went to the authors site and two things stuck out to me right off the bat.

1)  One it was a trainer that asked her to write a book on goldendoodles because "they are everywhere" and "they all look alike, you can spot one from a mile away".  What, they are every color imaginable, every size imaginable, wavey hair, curley hair ... I have two and I still can't always tell if it's a goldendoodle or a labradoodle etc!

2)  The other thing was that she said it has now been a year and here is this book.  I've had my girls for 4 years, and I'm on this site way too many hours every day and I'm still learning new stuff.

It says she is a breeder, but not a breeder of GoldenDoodles.

So, if you have this book or have read this book, let me know.  Is there valuable information?  I'll gladly pay $25.00 if there is something I can't get here for free.

You could try your local library.  Where I live, if it's not available at my library, and is is available at another library in the same county, they will get for you to borrow.

Most public libraries don't buy self-published books from vanity press companies. Most don't even take them as donations, I don't believe.

I got this email, too, and I was skeptical. I would like the option to look inside the book and get an idea of what it has to offer. I sincerely doubt that there's much if anything that hasn't already been covered here on DK. I mean: "what you probably DON'T know about dog food, what you Do need to know about vaccination and the immune system, step-by-step grooming instructions"??? Wouldn't dog food apply to all dogs, not just GDs? And don't we have that here in the Food Group, if I do say so myself? Same for the info about vaccinations and immune systems (not that anyone with less than a PhD or an MD/DVM specializaing in immunology could know very much about that anyway). And grooming you've got covered and then some.

Plus, considering that it's a GD breeder endorsing this book, I doubt that some of the info that we really need to know, (i.e. problems with health and temperament issues) is going to be abundant and unbiased in this book. But I would have to see it to know for sure.

Also, you should be aware that the author published this book herself. You or I could do the same. It isn't as if a publisher said, "We want you to write about Goldendoodles because you are so knowledgable." It's self published by a vanity press: https://www.createspace.com/

Hmm, maybe I should look into this, lol!

Bottom line IMO, there isn't going to be anything here that you can't get for free.

I think that's right.  The collection of information here on DK is IMO more complete and diverse than you'd find on any single book on Doodles.  That said, it does make me pretty curious to see what she has to say....but not curious enough to spend the $25.

Sherri how about the library?

Oh I see I am not the first. Let us know how it pans out wherever you get it.

I checked after Sharon mentioned it above and no library in Southern Ohio has it.  I'm guessing they don't carry these type books like Karen mentions above.

I haaven't read it but I seriously doubt she knows more than us : )

When you have one, what else do you need to know??  I am not sure she could offer much useful knowledge to me after living with Rosey for 3 years and all the knowledge from DK...

I also got the e-mail. I think we have all the information we might need about dogs right here at our fingertips.
