Fudge loves to play ball. Usually, Vern runs after one ball, gets it, and Fudge takes it out of his mouth, and he is done chasing the ball. He may still chase Fudge, however, or try nonchalantly to get the ball when Fudge is not looking. Sometimes, when Fudge starts to get tired, I make her sit and throw the ball to her to catch. If she catches it in her mouth, I almost always yell, "Airbud!" and throw my arms up in the air like she just got a touchdown. Vern likes this part of the game and decides sometimes he wants in on the action. If I tell Fudge to sit, often times he will sit right down and look at me like it is his turn. Fudge almost always catches the ball. I would say 95% of the time Vern does not catch the ball. Oh, he gives it his best effort, leaps in the air, and we all watch as it rolls down his front. It never phases Vern and frankly, I think he likes to make me laugh or at least, that it what I like to tell myself. How many of you have a dog that is part Retriever and can not catch a ball to save his/her life?
This is What Happens If Vern Catches the Ball...Fudge says, "I don't think so!" Same thing happens if he fetches the ball!

Jackdoodle here.
Vern, man, this is not your fault. This is what comes of dressing large male sporting dogs up like bugs and other species: you lose your retrieving instincts. I know Fudge gets dressed up, too, but she's a girl. It's different.
Vern, it's time to take a stand. That horrible holiday is coming up again next month where she's going to dress you in a costume and try to turn you into some other kind of animal, then post photos of your humiliation. DON'T LET HER DO IT! Stand your ground. Here's a little secret I learned back in my youth...we can take them down if we want to! They are not as tough as they look! They have barely any claws and no teeth to speak of. And the bones in their faces are a joke; one good head butt to the cheekbone and I promise there won't be any antenna on your head this year!
Seriously, man, I'm here if you need me!
Your pal,
Jackdoodle
