Does your Doodle watch TV? Cute maybe BUT dangerous at times. Need your help

Hi All

This is my very first post, although I have been frequently helped by your suggestions and experience (for this I thank all of you!!).  My Emily is 5 years old, born in America but moved to the UK with me 2 years ago.  She is 95% of time a perfect dog and I can't imagine life without her now.  However, there is one thing she does which I have not been able to address.  Emily watches TV, movies, documentaries, sitcoms, everything.  And even though she is the most friendly dog ever with all "live" beings, she attacks the TV every time a dog, horse or cat appears on TV.  She actually recognises the sound track of a TV ad she has seen before and knows how to wait until a dog that she knows she has seen before in that particular ad appears. She might be in another location in the house, when she hears the ad she will come running, sits in front of TV waiting for the dog or cat to appear and then attacks the TV like nothing I have seen before, barking and jumping. It can actually be a tiny little puppy which only appears for 5 second and she still can spot it and go after it like it presents a clear dangerous to her being.  Emily is not a jealous or protective dog and gets along well with every dog (and cat) she ever met.  Anyone has any suggestions?

Both of my dogs, 5 and 3 years old, bark at animals on the TV. They will come from another room when they hear the music from a commercial that " they know" has an animal in it. My female dog runs and gets her stuffed animal ( her baby) and brings it to me! I was just complaining to Ronna today that they were barking too much. I am going to try owning the television :-) Seda also barks at the sniffer commercials EVERY time and their isn't an animal in that one!!

Ah  Linda, happy to hear it is not just my Emily.  She actually manages to see even tiny dogs that appear for 1 sec...  She does also sometimes go pick up her stuffed bear and bring it to me.  funny....

LOL Linda.......we were just talking when Webber and Seda were barking at a monkey on tv! What a timely post!
Yes, that was on the Bachelor that was filmed in Thialand on a beach with monkeys on it! The dogs were very excited.
They stop when I tell them to but I get tired of telling them! I guess I should work on this.

Sometimes Luca reacts to animated figures or objects. He's not fond of sirens either.

I thought that dogs could not see  TV images?  I have seen Quincy look at the TV-but never dawned one me he could see the images   He does react to dogs barking on TV.  I don't remember our prior dog- a lab doing that at all!

Our cat watches golf and tries to swat the balls !

We leave the racing channel on sometimes for Riley. He loves it. I have to say if he was running at the TV or barking like crazy that would not be so funny and I would really want to stop that behavior.  I like the idea of taking ownership of the TV as a strategy. For a specific problem like this you may need a good trainer to come in and advice.

My Shea,a three year old Goldendoodle watches TV,but never attacks it. We have a really big screen and some of the animals are like size. He just sits and stares. The only time the rest of the pack notices,it s when a dog barks.I don't even recognize sound tracks. Sounds like you have a VERY SMART doodle in your house.

yes, too smart for my own good.  As soon as I pick up the remote, she knows it will be on.  She also know the word TV.  At the beginning we all thought it was really cute and were amazed at her ability to recognise the sound tracks from a distance (even when there is no Dog barking in the ad).  THere is a BBC one that comes up between programs and it is a circle of things, sometimes dogs sometimes something else.  When she hears that she runs, sits in front and waits for the dogs to appear....I do need to find a way for her to not be bothered...

Wow, she is really TV sensitive!  That is amazing, Libby only looks up once in a while when she hears a dog barking, then back to sleep!
