Well I was very touched and surprised, even though it's just good client relations, that my vet sent us a condolence card at Jake's passing. He was euthanized last Friday after a very long and painful week. I won't go into details as I wrote a tribute blog to Jake that's been posted. But I was wondering if other vets do the same thing. It's the first time I've received something like that from any vet. But then again I haven't been in this situation for a while so perhaps it's just times they are a changing.

So sorry about Jake, but my vet also does this.  When we put Renny down last month, I got a beautiful card from him and his staff...

Sorry about Jake, Yes my Vet did this too, I thought it was very comforting.

We got a card with Zach's paw prints and a copy of the Rainbow Bridge. I was very moved.

Sorry about Jake...he is now romping on the other side of the bridge with all of our little dogs that have passed.

Well, this sent me on a little trip down memory lane.  We lost our little Asti, a mini poodle close to 8 years ago.  During the time we had her we had a lot of bad experiences with Vets.  However, in her later years when we were in FL we finally found one vet who happened to be in a large practice but he was the only Vet we would allow to see Asti.  He was very helpful to us when she got sick just short of her 16th b-day.  I thought back when I read your post and could vaguely remember getting a card from him when she passed.  All of a sudden it dawned on me that I had all of the things from when she passed in a Milk Bone dog tin in the kitchen hutch so I just pulled it out and read all the cards that we received when she passed away.  His card was very personal and touching, not just a card he signed.   We got Asti for our 2nd Anniversary and she was with us for almost 16 years.   Thanks for the little walk down memory lane.  I hope that your wonderful memories of Jake are helping your through these difficult days.

I got a nice card signed by all the staff, when I went to pick up the ashes from Rex along with his paw print.

Our vet's office sent us condolences for both dogs we lost.

I was very sorry to hear about Jake and read your touching tribute to him. Yes, our vet did this when we lost our Honey.

So sorry for your loss, what a painful time.  We recently lost our 13 year old dog and were really surprised when we got a card from the office staff and a hand written note with "memories" of him from his doctor.  Then last week we got a letter in the mail from an organization saying that our vet had placed a donation in his name.  I was really surprised and touched.

Oh Shannon, your vet's generosity and thoughtfulness brought tears to my eyes. What a lovely gesture and so unexpected!

I'm so sorry that Jake has passed and grateful you have such a kind vet. When we lost our Golden Retrievers, our vet's office also sent a condolence card. It is a very small vet office, and we consider them friends.

I just wanted to say I am so sorry about Jake. Our vet does this also.

So sorry to hear about your Jake.

Both times we've had to put our dog down, the vets' offices sent a card.  Two different vets in two different states.   Both times the vets were on the floor crying with us as we held the dogs for the last time.
