The (in)famous, not quite retired, Angela Whatever Her Name Now, formerly of Tegan Park has suggested The Australian Companion Dog as the future name. Bit awkward to me.
Breeds have to accepted into the AKC Foundation Stock Service Program and remain in FSS status for many years before they are recognized by the AKC as accepted breeds. Ever hear of a Coton de Tulear? A Bolognese? A Cane Corso? How about the Lagotto Romagnolo that we dicussed here on DK recently, which look like doodles? None of these is eligible for AKC registration, although they have all been around much longer than any of the doodles and all breed true. They are all still on Foundation Stock status and considered in development. It takes about 75 years of a carefully controlled breeding program with detailed records for a breed to be recognized...at least, that's what it took for one of the newest AKC recognized breeds, the Black Russian Terrier. I sincerely doubt we will see labradoodles in any kind of conformation show in our lifetimes.
Here is a link to the AKC Foundation Stock Service program, it's interesting to see all the purebred dogs who are not yet recognized by the AKC, and will help you to understand how far the labradoodle has to go to get to this point...not that I think that would be a good thing. http://www.akc.org/breeds/fss_breeds.cfm
OH BOO HOO! Guess I'll have to live to be at least 100 to see that - lol. Well not that I'm prejudiced or anything..., but I think our doodles have 'em ALL beat!!! :O)
Well might be a little prejudiced, but our doodles are really much cuter then some of those prissy dogs, and I bet they are a lot smarter then some of them too....They have no idea what they are missing by not letting our beautiful doodles compete, lol...Our doodles would win some of the classes by a mile, lol...Their loss for not allowing our wonderful, smart doodles....So there!!!!!
I liked the bearded collie but thought , as I often do with these shows, that it's preety funny when you have to comb your dog every 2 steps. That wouldn't work here. The dogs just got their biannual bath--not kidding.
We are lucky we still had a television to watch after viewing this show. Spud smashed into the television three times. Just leaped on all fours. Did he like the show? Did he resent no doodles? Ba humbug to the non-doodle dog show? Only he knows.
Television is still working and he still has his cute paws but we now have to supervise/restrict his television. Typical kid.
