Dog waste??

We considered this once before and then got lazy and didn't do it.  Now that we are going to bring a second doodle in and think we need to reconsider and get it done before winter.  I am wondering if any of you have installed one of these home made doggie waste systems...similar to this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if_nHfA93Mk

I have to confess to a lot of guilt about the plastic bags I now use and of course I look to the future and wonder what creatures from other worlds will think of humans when they see how perfectly we have preserved these little poops  in plastic.  Heck, Meg is pretty proud that she does this in the yard and we pick it up and put it in a special place all wrapped up. 

 

Any opinions, especially if you have something similar, would be welcome.

You are so lucky...once Meg goes she doesn't want to play in that area in more so if a Frisbee or tennis ball goes near it she gets there, takes a sniff and walks away and leaves the toy behind.  We practically follow her with a bag at the ready.  What a princess she thinks she is, how can you avoid your own poop and then try to eat toads?

Well, she may mistakenly believe that will make a toad turn into a prince.

Mine will avoid poop if they are walking around at a slow pace or if a ball lands near poop they will likely leave it there.  But once they get into chases and such together, all bets are off.

We had a store bought version that used chemicals.  It didn't work. The chemicals didn't break down waste, they only killed the plants in the surrounding soil.  It was a MESS.  We had 2 dogs when we tried this.  We keep a small metal trash can with a sealed lid in our yard that we use (with a garbage bag) and empty weekly into our main trash. We do use a bag though so.....

No waste or bad odors to worry about. Plus we made a side yard with sand that our doodle uses so it is easy to clean.

Wonder how those are with a septic system?  I am going to check into that and see what I can find.

Please let us know. Depending on the number of dogs it will increase the burden on the system even if the bags are OK.

Copied directly from their web site...I guess this won't be an option for me.  I like the sand pit, my brother did that with pea gravel (but he does not have anything else but concrete) and that works for him, not sure I could train Meg at this point but worth thinking about.

Can I use Flush Doggy bags with my septic?
We do not recommend our products for septic systems. We would hate for you to have a problem as a result of flushing! Put the poop in the toilet and toss the bag, just to be safe. Even if you can’t flush you can breathe easy knowing you won’t be filling a landfill with a bunch of plastic bags that will still be there in 1000 years.

That's too bad. :(
At the beach we have a septic tank as well so we use the biodegradable bags you can get at any pet store and put it in the trash instead.
I believe most dogs can be retrained to go in one area. Just would take some persistence.
