Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We have been shaving Holly's fur shorter this winter, but we still want to be able to take her snowshoeing with us. We are worried about her getting cold, and also have noticed that she seems to be getting a lot of snow packed in-between her toes. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas about large doodle sized snow jackets and/or snow booties. I have looked at a few of the booties at REI and I found a pair that go up pretty high so hopefully they won't just fall off in the snow. We were also kind of tossing the idea around of just buying a large child's jacket for her to try out LOL... She is definitely big enough. Any thoughts or advice on the subject?

Quincy wears Muttluks, they are a real lifesaver. The only problem is that snow gets in around the velcro and they sometimes come undone, I've solved that by putting a piece of electrical tape around the velcro and that works great. There are also a couple of discussions about this with some photos of doods in their snowsuits and links to where we bought them. I don't know how big Holly is but at 65lbs a mens small jacket was too small for Quincy. If you go to my page you will find photos of both the snowsuit I bought this year and the one I made him last year. Good Luck.
Gracie wears boots/shoes when she had an injury and I want to protect her paws.  I got mine at REI and she also wears the Muttluks which probably wouldn't hold up in snow.  There have been many past discussions about shoes/boots.  Maybe you can go back in the archives to find them.  Otherwise, look through pictures and when you find a Doodle with boots on contact the owner for more information.  We don't have snow here so I really can't be of help.  I don't think I have ever seen high boots.  Only up to the back heel pad is about the highest I have seen.  Good luck and if you find some please post them here for everyone to make note of!!

If you go to the doodles in boots slideshow, there was a doodle with the cutest pair of boots. I'll add the photo and someone may know the cute little dood in question.

We need to put an APB out for this little dood, I have no idea who he is and I tried different tags to find the pic to get his info but no luck.

I don't know whose doodle this is, but I know what the boots are!!  They are by a company called Ruffwear   www.ruffwear.com

Bark'n Boots™ Polar Trex™

Both my doods have the Grip Trex boots by Ruffwear and they are awesome.  Really good quality.  The only thing with the Grip Trex is that if the dog is cutting and turning and they aren't fastened TIGHT, they come off.  I think this is why they came out with the Polar Trex, to stop them falling off so easily as they fasten a lot higher up.  My younger dood is thin skinned and gets cold easily.  We just bought the Ruffwear Cloud Chaser jacket for him and it is lovely - fits well, fleece lined, and has reflective piping!  Hope this helps!

Here is Chase all dressed and ready to go!!  He isn't too sure about it in this picture, but he is used to it now and I'm pretty sure appreciates them on the -30C morning walks!!

Thanks Katharine!  We regularly take our doods snowshoeing.  It is the perfect way to tire them out!!  My other dood it the one pictured on my icon, he has a more labbish coat and is way too cool to wear clothes!!
Wow, I like those tall boots.  Maybe because we live in Southern California they think we don't need tall ones at our REI.  I haven't seen those before!
You can go on the Ruffwear website and find nearby stockists and on-line stores.
