I have just unsubscribed from Dogs Naturally Magazine and unliked them on Facebook for their terrible article disrespecting doodles.

Of course.  I am dismayed though, that a magazine I admired would encourage the discrimination.  I'm letting them know with my $ withdrawn from subscription.

Hit em where it hurts I say, good job!!!

I bough two picture frames this weekend, and the standard photo inside were BOTH doodles. Different brands and different pictures!

From the comments it looked like they are going to lose a lot of $ over this which is good.

If their intro to the article was something to caution people against unethical breeders I wouldn't have a problem.  But to instigate discrimination against any living being is unethical and immoral.  Not that I'm without my own prejudices.  I have to admit that I am afraid of pit bulls.  I have known a truly loveable one - but only one.  And I have to admit that I'd be afraid to have one next door to me.  So, I'm not saying I'm a perfect dog lover.

As Laurie stated, all dogs started somewhere. I was watching the Westminster dog show last week and they were talking about how each breed was developed.  At least to me, it was clear that many of the "pure bred" dogs had more different breeds mixed in that Tank, Beau and Sully.  For example, Shetland Sheepdogs are a cross of a Spitz like dog, rough collie and Pomerania.  I think they are really cute dogs and understand the "standard".  I spent a lot of time telling our children not to judge by what's on the outside, but rather what's on the inside.   Same thing applies in different context.

:)

Deb, good for you!  Me again. IMO this is an ignorant article and whether Conron was condemning doodles or his quotes were "selected" to create the story the writer wanted. I don't know, but it's full of "opinion" and light on facts. What does Conron know about the caring doodle breeders in the US and Canada?  Exactly nothing, and neither does the magazine it seems. I wish they would have focused on how to keep from handing your money over to unethical breeders and puppy mills for any kind of puppy because I think all dogs are special and I just hate the misery human beings cause. Plenty of "pure breeds" being peddled by puppy mills too.

Apparently the editor of the magazine is a labrador breeder

Yep!

Well, if posting the Conron article wasn't half-baked enough, DN's response to the controversy written by a staff member and pure breed breeder is really disappointing.  It's too long to post here.  I don't usually comment on FB, but did, and since their post (coincidentally, I'm sure) appeared after my comment, I felt the need to respond. Done now, and going to hug my doodle of stolen parentage, afflictions not known to pure breeds, etc. etc. :)) BTW Talbot's has a Spud doodle twin featured in their spring campaign.  Maybe it is Spud????????

Hear! Hear!  I'm glad for this opportunity to know the mind behind the magazine so I can stop giving them my money.  As someone else on the FB site commented, judging by their intro to the article, they agree wholeheartedly with the content of the article.
