Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Guys,

Long time doodler, first time poster.  I have two doodles, and one have severe food allergies.  Does anyone know anything about this Bil-Jac food?  It looks pretty good, and I'm thinking about putting my dogs on it.  Opinions?

P.S.         Doodles rule and other breeds drool.  HA!

Please join the Food Group. I don't know what criteria could have led you to believe that Bil-jac is a "pretty good" food, but in TFG, you will find all the information you could ever want on how to evaluate and choose foods. You may also want to join the Health and Medical Issues Group to learn more about allergies in dogs.
Bil-jac is a poor quality food, and if your doodle does have food allergies, it is absolutely not the right food for him.
However, the chances are really good that your dog does not have food allergies. What are the symptoms and how did you determine that they are caused by "severe food allergies"? What is the dog currently eating?
Thanks for the replies.

My dog is always itching, scratching, and barking. After he eats he runs around like crazy and sounds like he is sneezing, and then jumps on me and barks. It seems like he's trying to tell me that its the food causing it. In regards to Bil-jac, I heard from a guy at the park that its good. He seemed pretty knowlegable, but I am definately going to join your food group. BTW, corn is bad? I thought only corn syrup (sugar) was bad for dogs.

Mark-

Your dog is playing... seriously this is common when dogs get excited and are happy. His barking at you is an invitation to play with him as he runs around spazing out. He is not trying to tell you that his food is bad for him.

Have you actually had your dog tested for allergies or do you just think he is allergic because he spazes out after eating.

You can subscribe to the Whole Dog Journal to learn more about behavior and food, it is a great magazine but can not be found on the news stands.
Actually, they do sell it in some pet supply stores...the smaller private ones.
Corn is not good for dogs. Niether are by products which both are in the first few ingredients in Bil-Jac. TFG will definitely help you. I always fed Sonny healthy food but he had gas issues. I switched him to Fromm and he is doing so much better and he loves it!
Is Fromm expensive? I've been thinking about doing a BARF diet, it seems like it would be convient to just feed him stuff that I get at the store for me. Any thoughts on that?
we are big BARF diet fans
Fromm is not the most expensive food out there but it is not cheap. We use the Four-Star Line. It is a single protien source so you can determine if one of the protein sources are bothering your dog. It does have some healthier grains in it. The good thing about the Four Star is you can rotate the different varieties anytime. Tonight he had pork and applesauce but yesterday he had duck and sweet potato. My friends dog is an EXTREMELY picker eater and her doodle eats it as well. You will find lots of info. on it in the food group. That is how I heard of it. Google it and you can find out prices I am sure.
