Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have heard and read on many websites that the curlier the coat, the less the shedding.  I have also read that the amount of curl has nothing to do with the amount of shedding.

I would like a non-scientific poll:  Does your curly coated doodle shed?  Please tell us the generation (f1, f1b, f2, etc), age, and how curly your doodle is.

I'll start: my dog Webster is an f2 chocolate goldendoodle.  He is 1 1/2 yrs old and has a fairly curly coat.  I would classify him as a very light shedder.  If I haven't brushed him for a couple weeks (I know, I know, shame on me!), I will get a couple brushfulls of hair.  I see an occasional doodle tumbleweed in the corners of my wood floors.  I do not see any hair on  clothes or furniture.

Here is Webster at 5-6 weeks old and now - it was evident that he would be curly and he definitely is.

I'd love to hear from others about the relation of curly coats and the amount of shedding!

Charlie is a multi-generational labradoodle. He has a very curly coat and does not shed at all. Of course when I brush him there will be hair in the brush but no other time. He looks more like a poodle but when his coat is long he feels like soft wool. If you just wash him and let him air dry his coat goes into little ringlet curls.
I have an F1 and an F1b. Both have relatively straight hair. Neither sheds at all. I keep them shorter in the summer to keep them cool, but I grow it out during the fall and winter. The longer the coat gets, the more I have to groom and keep the matts at bay. It's the down side of those non-shedding coats!
Zack is an F2, 17 months and sheds a lot.

Zack is beautiful! I can't believe he sheds as an F2, but he has gorgeous fur!
Zack is beautiful. He looks so soft and silky.
Quinn is an F2 who had fairly straight hair as a puppy...

And is now pretty curly. He sheds a tiny bit - I always get some hair in the brush, and you'll find some hair on his bed - but not much.

He did get curlier...Is it just the picture, or did he lighten up a lot?! So cute!
I think it's partially the lighting in the pictures (one inside, one outside) but his coat did change a lot. Most people thought he was a golden when he was a puppy, and now a lot of people think he's a poodle.
Quinn really did change from pup to adult coat. He is very handsome.
I have two doodles and their hair and shedding is quite different. Groucho Too, F1b phantom goldendoodle does not shed and he has curly hair. I think the poodle part (3/4) helps with that. Hondo, F1 labradoodle has wavy hair and sheds a little. Mostly it is when you brush him, but a little bit of hair is sometimes on the carpet or furniture.

Well, can you believe that I share my biking jerseys with my dogs? Just for show! They don't wear them on the trail.
