Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all! Okay - I have two questions.... what exactly is the differnece between F1, F1b,etc. What are the qualifications???? And two - Can someone tell me what a Les Pooch brush is??? I have actually looked for one, and can't seem to find one anywhere. With all of this snow and now rain.... Tori is mating pretty badly. I did spray her down with dematting spray before our big storm, because I knew there would be no keeping her in. Got most of the mats out and now they are coming back. I like to demat her as much as I can before going to the groomer so she won't have to be cut so much (I LOVE her hair long)... Kinda' like cleaning before the cleaning lady comes! LOL
Thanks so much!!! By the way - Tori's mom was an australian shepherd and her dad was a standard poodle.

An F1 results from breeding one purebred to another purebred of a different breed- i.e. a purebred Standard poodle bred to a purebred Golden retriever. 50/50 mix. An F1B is an F1 bred back to one of the parent breeds...most often the poodle, for the non-shed qualities. So an F1B puppy has an F1 doodle as one parent and a purebred Standard poodle as the other. An F1B is 75%poodle and has the best chance of being non-shedding, because there are shedding breeds on only one side.
Beyond that, someone else will have to continue the explanations.

Here's the Les Poochs website:

I personally prefer Chris Christiansen brushes, but that's an individual preference.
Okay - went on the les Pooch website and,,,,Whoa! I was so happy to finally find the leather collar without the buckle on the Les Pooch website.... but I LOVE my dog but$900.00 for a collar is just a wee bit too pricey for me! LOL Love the brushes though, and from what I read seem to be worth it!
I agree, your dog doesn't need a $900 collar.
A $3000 bottle of dog cologne, on the other hand, is a must-have.
LOL Maybe if we win the next Mega millions!! :O)
$900!!! I think it would be difficult to control oneself when the dog snacked on it. We at DK may be crazy but there must be other people out there who are worse. after all they must sel some of these. I'll have to go to the site and look.
Shelly, what is wrong with you. I just went to the Les Poochs website and saw that you may have missed the beds. One of the larger ones goes for $15,000. Can you imagine!
Those must be some LUCKY DOGS!!! LOL You would of thought that would try and get cha' for a brush - perhaps with diamonds! Guess Paris Hilton buys Les Pooch for her dogs! Guess I'll have to tell my husband he needs to work a bit of overtime just so Tori can have a "designer" collar - Nothin' too good for my "POOCH" LOL
Since I am very close to ordering a Les Poochs brush from DoodleCountry after hearing all the raves about them, I would like to know why you prefer the Chris Christiansen brushes. Considering the cost of these brushes, I definitely want to make a wise choice. It just seems I see the Les Pooches ones mentioned more frequently, but I would love to hear your opinions/comments on the others.
First let me say I have never used a Les Poochs brush; but they are basically "slicker" type brushes, and I've used lots of those in the past...because I had poodles. Les Poochs were designed for and are still primarily used for grooming show poodles and show dogs with similar coats like Wheaten terriers.
There's nothing wrong with the brushes if your dog has a wooly coat like a poodle's and if you keep it longer. Slicker brushes tend to "fluff" out the coat and make it look like it's all one piece...think about a show poodle with those big "balls" of fur around the chest...you can't see individual hairs or waves, it looks like one big solid mass. Most people like their doodle's fur to lie looser than that. I hear a lot of people saying they don't want their doodles to look like poodles.
On the other hand, they are the best type of brush for getting through mats in dogs with wooly poodley non-shedding coats. And of the slicker type brushes, the Les Poochs are the gentlest on the skin. But you're probably still going to have to use a comb and another type of brush to get the look you want.
So I'd say, make sure your dog has the type of coat that warrants spending that kind of money. Mine doesn't. I use the Christiansen pin brushes and a shedding rake that cost $6; but Jackdoodle doesn't mat. Again, the Les Poochs brushes are great- for a certain type of look and a certain type of coat.
An F1 is the product of the first mating between 2 dogs, in the case of say a labradoodle, a lab and a poodle. An f1b is from the mating between an F1 and a dog of the same breed of one of the F1's parents. Generally the F1 is bred back to a poodle but it could be a lab. An F2 is the mating of 2 F1s. an F3 is the third generation, that is 2 F2s mating and so on. For golden doodles just substitute a golden retriever for the lab. As for the Les Pooch brushes they have a website. You can also get them from the Doodle Country Store . The Grooming group has lots of good info.
Here's the best guide I've found that explains the generations:

Thank you so much.. so I guess Tori is an F1. Thanks for the info on the brushes!!!
