Doodle Grooming

Hi Everyone. Tomorrow I am bringing Lincoln in for his first full blown grooming as he has developed matts even though I've been brushing him. The groomers told me that they would have to get quite close to get these matts out. It's from the dampness from the snow. There was another Goldendoodle getting groomed while I was there getting a German cut so that's what I'm getting Lincoln. I'm so nervous, but his hair is way out of control. It doesn't stop growing and it's more like poodle hair. Very curly!!!!

Hi, When I get my doodle groomed they do what they call a Teddy Bear cut. No clippers. Check out my photos to see a picture of Quincy fresh from the groomer. When he first went I told them I wanted him to look exactly the same only shorter. This was the result.They did a really nice job but were very pricey. I am going to try and find another groomer as he need to be groomed every couple of months. Good Luck I'm sure he'll look great.

He looks so much like Lincoln!!! Not at the moment though after the grooming today!!! I like that look. It's cute!!

Why don't the groomers realize they would have more business and it would be easier on everyone if they charged less and saw the doodles more often. Why don't they have a "special" if you bring them back within a certain amount of time.

Okay I am mad now!!! As I posted earlier they could not finish Lincoln because he had matts, and he was there for 3 1/2 hours. We rescheduled and took him back today at 9:00am, and I told her that I would pick him up at 12:00pm which is my lunch time. I figured he was more than half way done so it shouldn't take too long. Well it's 12:35pm and I just call them and they told me it was going to be another hour!!!! I'm at work, and now have to break up my afternoon instead of taking my lunch time. It will now be a total of 8 hours grooming with my poor puppy. When I called to find out what was going on she said we always ask for 3-4 hours, and then I told her, but he's already half done. This is the second day!!! She repeated it again as if she didn't hear me. Also they bathed him again, and I asked them not to!!!!!! His skin was already irritated from all the grooming before!!! I am never going back there again. I went to Petsmart in Carmel/Westfield IN. Grrrrrrrrrr......

Well I calmed down now. I was just so frustrated when I wrote earlier today. They didn't do him right away is what happened. I think they were fitting him in between other dogs. It's the only possible explanation. Does anyone elses Doodle take 8 hours to groom with matts? Just wondering.

We drop our 3 dogs off usually at 10 and pick them up 3 but one time with Ned it was probably 9:00 to 4! He was super matted that day. I do know that like hair dressers, they juggle customers - even if it is only my 3!

Here are the before and after pictures. I'm not so sure I like the look. His face doesn't seem right to me. You still can't see his eyes very much. Everyone thought he looked cute though. Tell me what you think.

The poor dog. Too much time and aggravation. I don't personally like the puffy legs and shorter body fur. Allin all too puffed up and not doodly to me.

I agree. I will not do this cut again. I will let his body grow out and trim the legs as it goes so that they match. Too much poof on top. The groomer said she didn't want to take too much off of his top because of his tail. She said he'd look out of balance. Something just isn't right to me. He did get a lot of compliments though while I was walking around afterward. I really hope he doesn't get too matted again. I'm really going to have to invest in a good comb and brush. I used to trim my ex-mother-in-laws dog, but that was a very very long time ago. Thanks for the input.

Maybe if you spray him with a little conditioner and let it air dry he'll look better.

Yes I was thinking that too. I saw Pet Head detangler conditioner at Petsmart, but I found it a little pricey. What should I use?
