Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My Goldendoodle Archie just turned 1 yesterday and he has never really been much of a food guy.  He always ate twice a day (7-8am and 5:30-6pm).  In the last 2 or 3 months though we have dropped him down to once a day because he usually doesn't eat breakfast....I put the food in his bowl in the morning and he doesn't eat that until 3-4pm in the late afternoon or until he poops 2 or 3 times in the morning. Does anyone have a doodle like this? I've always found it strange he doesn't really enjoy his bowls of food.

We changed his food from puppy to 1+ last week if that makes any difference?  Also, he is eating the Science Diet small bites because he never seems to enjoy the regular sized bites.

Wellness and Blue Buffalo are available at PetSmart and PetCo. I think they also have Solid Gold and maybe some of the others.

However,  a small store doesn't always translate into higher prices. One small privately owned pet supply store in my area has lower prices than PetCo for the same products.

Also, you feed less with some of the better foods, so you can't just go by the price on the bag. If a bag of Food A costs $30, and the same sized bag of Food B costs $40, but A lasts 2 weeks and B lasts three weeks, which is cheaper? In a 6 weeks period, you will have spent $90 for 3 bags of Food A, or $80 for 2 bags of Food B.

So the one that costs more per bag would actually cost less.

We have actual price comparisons for some of the recommended brands in TFG, and the info is surprising. :)

Thank you Stephanie! You are too awesome.

Our Labradoodle sometimes leaves his food all day. The Vet said he is a social eater and wants to eat when we are there.

Most dogs do. I've always kept my dogs' bowls near the kitchen table, and sit there when they eat, usually having a meal or snack myself at the same time. Dogs like company when they eat.

Ha ha - that makes Ned an antisocial eater!  He prefers to eat alone so he waits until the other dogs leave.  If i happen to walk by when he is eating, I get a dirty look from him, like I have invaded his space.

Charity was not much into food when I first got her. After she had puppies I could hear her stomach grumbling after she ate.  I changed her diet to Natural Balance LID.  Sweet potato, fish or chicken, and flax. That brand of LID food helps. She enjoys her food but she still is not a big eater.  She does eat more when she has more exercise. She also eats better if I'm in the kitchen preparing a meal.
