I am looking into having a doodle romp in Philadelphia... I would like to have it support a good cause ... Such as helping to raise money for breast cancer? How do I go about getting something like this started? This park is not a "dog park" rather a large field.... Would this be something people would be interested in??
We have a group for romp planners...might find some good ideas there.
First thing is you need to find doodle owners near you and let them know of your intent to plan a romp.
If there isn't already a Philly group here on Doodle Kisses, you might want to create one (use the search box in the Groups section to search for Philadelphia). Once you've got your group together, search Doodle Kisses for folks near you.
Then maybe create some fliers (we have some generic Doodle Kisses fliers you could use, but probably better to make your own) for your group with the URL of the group page and your email if you like. Put these fliers up around town (dog groomers, vets, pet stores, starbucks, dog friendly establishments, anywhere that let's people put up fliers).
We also have Doodle Kisses 'business cards' you can print out and keep with you (or make your own) inviting doodle owners you run into to join DK and when you notice new members from Philly or nearby, invite them to your Doodle Kisses Philly group.
Perhaps check out meetup.com (or is it meet-up.com) and see if there is a Philly doodle group there or people interested. Make contacts so you have lots of folks interested in one before you set a date/place.
I would also probably keep the first romp more casual and not a fund-raiser unless you get a lot of interest in that aspect. Also consider possibly a fund-raiser for a doodle rescue group like DRC or IDOG -- might make more sense to doodle owners because it is a related cause.
