Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello everyone, we have a 9 month old Labradoodle who is house trained and has always pee'd and pooped in the same area, which is a small area of dirt on the side of our house. But just this week, she has started to use our concrete patio as her spot and won't go on the dirt anymore. .
My husband waited 2 1/2 hours last night with her in normal area, and she finally went, but she was very hesitant and reluctant and seemed scared to go. He gave her praise and treats when she went. This morning, he only waited for 1/2 hour and gave up, and as soon as he went in, she peed on the concrete.
When we know she has to go, we supervise her, and she just walks around the patio, and the moment we go inside, she pees on the concrete. (does dog urine stain concrete, by the way?) So she knows she shouldn't be going on the patio.
We don't think it's because she doesn't like the feel of wet dirt on her paws because on the other side of the house is an area of dirt where she dug two holes in the wet dirt. He placed bark all over her normal bathroom area to see if it was the wet dirt she doesn't like, but she still just stood frozen on the bark and did not go.
It seems like she is really spooked now and refuses to go in her normal spot and we don't know what happened or what to do to get her to go back to her normal spot. If anyone can help us figure this out, we would be very grateful. Thank you in advance!
The only thing we can think of is perhaps another animal peed in her area, and that is why she doesn't want to go there anymore.
Any help would be great, thank you very much.

We have a dedicated potty area for our 2 dogs and have some pet turf down on top of pea gravel. For the past 2 years, cubbie goes through the same thing every spring. He will be fine one day and then suddenly the next he is terrified of the area. We have kennel cleaning spray that we use in case there is the smell of another animal but that doesn't seem to do it. Something just freaks him out. I thought it could have been the birds nesting in the neighbor's gutters but he was still afraid to go out even after I knocked the nest down. Then as suddenly as this strange phobia started, it just goes away.
Try to spray down the area and then just give it time and see if she will eventually start going back there on her own.
We got Clancy in March and he always used the grassy area of our yard to poop until we came back from vacation in late August). Clancy began to poop on the patio. We blocked off areas, used vinegar, store-bought deterrents, supervised as much as we could. Our other dogs continued to use the grassy area of the yard all the while. This went on for months, until the winter rains must have 'cleansed' the grass because Clancy quit using the patio and began using the grass again.
