Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Okay my husband and I fly an airplane and live in an aviation community. We will be either adopting or buying a doodle. Would love to take him in the plane. I know people do this as there is a site that sells "ear protection head sets" for dogs. Plus I have run into people that fly with their dogs. I plan on doing this with our dog.

Has anyone on here fly with their doodle?

That's wonderful. My husband would if he could. He is former Air Force. You doodle will have a wonderful life. :-)

Yes we fly down to family, so sometimes it would be nice to take the dog with us on day trips. If the dog really likes it maybe we will go on longer trips. But we will see.

You may already know about this organization, if not, I am sure you will find the web site interesting.

I'm sure your doodle will do just great! You never know.  Many rescues can't handle cars, doorways, thunder..... some dogs can handle anything.
Hope your doodle loves to fly with you

Thanks I have herd of this group.  I haven't look into yet or at the website. So will have to see what the requirements. Frankly the rescue group I called yesterday in a relative to one of our neighbors. We live at Loves Landing in Florida. We have done Angel Flights before, but nothing like this.

Well this is where you would try short flights around the neighborhood and have two people in the plane. If the dog takes it well, then add more time. No different then taking a person up that has never been in a plane. Although with the dog I would let him sniff and get use to the plane while still on the ground. Then taxi the airplane and see how he does. Then of course a flight.

So its probably not the hard to figure out if the dog well take it.

My Mom and Dad had a twin engine jet he flew from California to Washington and Idaho, with two dogs on board.  One of them flew in in copilot seat after they were airborne.  The dogs loved it and spent their entire lives in and out of the air.  One was a maltipoo and the other a Lhasa Apso.  They never wore any gear on their heads.

Sounds great...

My daughter has a small maltese mix, Portia, that she has taken on the commercial airplanes with her many times.  Portia does tend to get motion sickness in the car so her vet gave her some kind of pill to take before getting on the plane.  It seems to work just fine.  Makes her a little sleepy but it works out fine.  I just flew from Dallas to Pittsburgh with Portia last week and she did great.  My doodle, Charlie, is too big to fly in the cabin and I wouldn't fly with a dog any other way, so he is relegated to long car rides.  I am trying to find a way to convince airlines that dogs with their CGC certificates should be allowed to fly in the cabin with a purchased seat just like a child.  But that is another topic all together.  I hope your future doodle loves flying with you!!!

Good luck with that.... I'm not sure they will ever do that as some people would probably protest it even with the CGC cert. I wouldn't send my animals by commercial plane unless they where next to me.

I flew my 2yr old labradoodle from Philly to Austin via Continental/United airlines and it was a wonderful although expensive adventure. They have a program called Pet Safe. The dogs fly in special compartments, NOT IN THE BAGGAGE' that are climate and temp. controlled. Not all their planes are so equiped so the dogs often fly a different route than their people. They go to cargo and are the last on the plane and almost first off. You can track their flight on your computer or phone They arrive within 15- 30 min of their stated arrival times. There are kennels in New York, Houston and Chicago with runs, attendants ,, and vet help ifneccessary if the plane is delayed, etc. Glory is 38 lbs. so if I want him with me this is how we go. He was great. He even slept in the plane kennel while we were visiting my daughter and when we got home. I feel good about him traveling this way. They are expanding this system for more airliners . You wouldn't believe the number of dogs going this way.

I lot of airlines are getting better at flying animals, but I don't think I will ever do that option. But if I didn't have any other option then I would do some major research on which airlines are best for that.

I  did the research. How do you think the breeders get puppies to new owners? And dogs to dog shows? I talked to these people and airline people ad nauseum until  was satisfied. I want my doodle with me, safely when I am gone for a length of time. Check it out.
