Doodles in Manhattan...?

Any doodle lovers out there living in the big apple?

I'm thinking of taking a road trip to visit a friend and am wondering how the doodles might do.  They are used to hustle and bustle of city life, but Downtown Manhattan is a whole other level. My friend lives close to Central Park, so lots of opportunity for walking, but still... Do you guys think the doodles can take on the big city?  

When I was staying in Brooklyn last year for a few days I noticed so many dogs. I was surprised because it is such an urban area. It seems New Yorkers really love their pooches. 

Any DK members wanna have a play date in Central Park? :o)

I have taken my dogs into NY on occasion but generally in quieter areas not midtown during busy times. We never had a problem though. Sometimes there are crowds such that even walking alone I don't like it much and I wouldn't want to attempt that. What time of year are you thinking of coming.

Thanks F. I'm thinking of going in January. I have a friend who moved there and has been asking me to come stay. Now that I'm not tied to a desk job it is possible. I can come with the doodles and stay with her as long as I want (or as long as I can on a visitor's visa). I haven't decided yet how long I will stay. It also depends on how long my cat sitter will put up with my bossy cat ;o)

Pretty cold in January. If we could be flexible in terms of weather I would love to meet you and the doodles.

That would be amazing F.  I know It's cold in January, but it really doesn't come close to the weather here.  I'll keep you posted on my plans. :o)

I live in midtown manhattan, three blocks or so from the U.N. with my 50 lb labradoodle, Breeze. She and I take at least one hour-long walk around the city every day. The city is filled with all shapes and sizes of doodles and the city is pretty dog friendly. The only area I avoid with her is Times Square. She's actually been fine with it any time we're there. I find the volume of people a bit overwhelming and am always concerned that -- even at her size-- she might get stepped on.
Central Park is a great place for a quieter ( by city standards!) dog walk. And I'm told (I don't live close enough to speak first hand) there are unofficial early morning off-leash doggy play groups in the park on most days. And, of course , there are the official dog parks where off leash activity is allowed.

You know your dogs best. As long as they're good on a leash and not overly sensitive to noise and new environments, I think you'll all do fine in the City.
