Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We are new to the puppy world so I we have a 12 week double doodle that loves to be outside during the day. At night he sleeps in his crate all night with no problems. We call him in to play sometimes he comes in and sometimes he doesn't want to. We do go outside and play with him. Our backyard is fenced in and on an acre lot with a large covered patio. We do as a family spend a lot of time out there as well. If he ever barks or whines to come in we do allow him but the majority of the day he wants to be outside. I have no problem with him being outside during the day but I just don't want it to become a problem down the road. We are having great weather right now during the day between 75-85 degrees.Does other doodles love to be outside during the day? If you do have a doodle that loves the outside what kind of setup do you have? When we got him from the breeder the puppies did stay outside during the day.

I would not leave a puppy outdoors unsupervised. (In fact, I wouldn't even leave an adult dog outdoors unsupervised for more than a few minutes, lol). There are just too many things they can get into, or that can happen to them. Eating things they shouldn't, drinking standing water, digging, other creatures, etc. And it will make housebreaking more difficult for you in the long run, for several reasons. It's also important to be able to observe when they go, how often, how much, and what the poop looks like, not to mention being able to clean it up immediately. He really needs to learn to live in a house, bond with the family, and learn the routines of family life. I would start now to limit his outside time to only those times that an adult can be out there with him.
My Boris loves the great outdoors. In fact he would happily stay outside...IF I LET HIM. I don't. I do not believe a puppy should be left outside alone and I would never leave dogs outside unsupervised even as adults.
We live in southern California where the weather is usually acceptable. We have a doggy door that we keep open 24/7 unless there is a problem. We didn't let Ned be outside by himself when he was a puppy though. As Karen said, there is just too much that a puppy can get into that could harm them, plus we wanted to reinforce potty training (which isn't going to happen if the puppy is outside all the time. Perhaps it isn't so much the outdoors as it is that he needs/wants more quiet, alone time.
Thank you very much for everyone's advice. We will start limiting his time outside.
