Does your doodle have to live by double standards?  We have two older cats that are allowed on the furniture.  I also have a small cup in my bathroom sink that the cats usually drink water from.  Poor Chewie is not allowed to jump up by the sink where the cats drink water.  Also, he not allowed on the furniture yet. We (DH mostly) want him to be older and be more reliable with only joining us on the furniture if invited.   I wonder what goes through Chewie's head when he is constantly being told no and corrected for stuff those mean kitties get to do all the time ??

Taquito sleeps with us, but Peri does not (6 vs. 25 pounds - DH said "T is the last dog to ever sleep with us"). She sleeps on her bed next to us on the floor. Usually around 5am, she is on our bed though. And every morning she is invited up to relax and watch the news with us. She just can't be there all night.
I feel horrible watching her watch Taquito climb under the covers. We say "go to your bed", she makes an annoyed "gruff, huff" noise and jumps on hers.
Lilly has to sleep in her bed "Right beside ours" at night because DH can't sleep with a dog in the bed. When his alarm goes off and he gets up and goes in the bathroom it takes Lilly about 5 seconds to jump up in bed with me. ;)
I was just thinking about a similar situation yesterday... Tori is allowed on the couch in the den, but not on the living room couch.. I was thinking what a mixed signal we are sending to her.. but funny enough - she KNOWS she's not allowed on the living room couch and if she happens to push her luck, she jumps off it when I walk in or past the room. Or will get off as soon a s I ask... what do you think you're doing???/ Guess they can actually figure out the double standard just fine - lol
I think they can figure out double standards fine too. Luca sleeps wherever he wants but usually ends up in my bed. Calla is still in a crate at night. She's used to it and often wanders in in the late evening of her own accord. She is clumsy and I don't want fifty pounds of her trampling me, two dogs is a bit much, and I think she'd wake us. Now if she whines, I can tell her to go back to sleep and she usually does for a while. despite being pushy if I'm petting or doing something to Luca ordinarily, she is fine with the sleeping arrangements since it's "the way it is".
Just tell your doodle that you love your kitties more! When one of our children used to whine that one of the others got to do something and he/she didn't, that is what we would say... LOL
But then we also told each one that they were our favorite...
Too funny !!
