Can you post the link to the dog?

I got shivers when I saw Klondike listed on the DRC...and HAD to apply.  Our previous dog's name was Klondike --- he was an American Eskimo.  He passed away in January.  We know we want a 2nd doodle for the kids and for Kokomo to grow up with....and when I saw this post yesterday I got goosebumps.  I am in NJ andhope that we can be considered eventhough he is fostered in CA.  I filled out the application before i posted here.

Amy, He is beautiful, but did you read all through the bio of him? It says he would do best as an only dog. I do love the name Klondike. I am so sorry about your Klondike.
Laurie, I did read that...but was wondering if that meant he wouldn't adapt well to another dog who 'rules the roost'.  It didn't sound like he was agressive, but more shy...since it said he was a loner.  So, I interpreted that to mean that he may do OK with a younger puppy...but not an older, more established pet.
Amy, I think you did the right thing filling out the application. The foster mom will know best, I guess. Even if this Klondike does not work out for your family, I believe the right dog will find his/her way to you. Good luck!!

The DRC is a private, nationwide rescue group registered and administered in Montclair, NJ. However, the dogs are fostered in private homes throughout the United States.

Out of state adoptions are permitted, but dogs will not be commercially transported. You would have to drive to California, or fly there and then rent a car, and drive the dog home yourself. It would probably not be in Klondike's best interests to have to make that kind of a trip on top of the stress and confusion of being rehomed. And he really would be best as an only dog.

The right dog does tend to find you at the right time. Just keep your eyes and your heart open. :)

Maybe the wording should be changed in the descriptions. I know Klondike is listed under California. But if you read a little further it says" An adoptable dog in Montclair, NJ. And he is not there. I can see how this would confuse people.

That's Petfinder, and there is nothing that can be done about it, because you must be a registered rescue to open a Petfinder account. Otherwise, anyone with dogs to sell could post them as rescue dogs on Petfinder.

The registration paperwork determines the account location. You can have other regional accounts if you have documentation of legitimate operations in the auxiliary area; but all of the dogs you list will still come up under the main account location, as well. All of this is explained very carefully on the DRC website, as well as all policies and procedures involved, and there are links to the website included with the listing.

There is also an auto-response that goes out to everyone who inquires about a dog explaining it.

Plus, the dog's location is indicated by the state abbreviation in front of the dog's name, i.e. CA-Klondike, as well as in the very first sentence of the listing information.

It's a problem for any national rescue group listing on Petfinder, which is a wonderful resource, but does have these limitations.

I finally got that auto-reply late Thursday.  I never heard anything else though :-(
Keep us updated if you get a response. The right dog will find you!
I sent an email today.

Khlondike is super cute!  Although, foster mom reports he may do better as an "only dog".

No matter what, you should have DRC keep your app on file in case a better fit comes along :)
