Dumb phone

Well, I made a comment in the Photography Group about buying a new smart phone since Verizon, my carrier, is switching data plans and, of course, things will get more expensive if I wait to buy a new phone. I need to do this before the 28th. It started lots of comments, some of which may be of more general interest.

There are days when I think I'll go back to a dumb phone that only does what a phone is supposed to do. But I do sometimes use the camera. I do use my phones GPS and occasionally I look something up. I do not</ strong> text. If I want to communicate I call and speak to the person or leave a message. How quaint.

I will copy others my and others comments as replies and maybe we'll have more of a discussion.

UPDATE: I Love my Samsung Galaxy S3. SUPER SMART!

For me with just one smartphone on the plan, and I never go over my minutes of phone time I could end up paying $20 extra/month for unlimited talk time but limited data : ( If I don't update my phone, I can keep my plan for now but when I need a phone I'd have to pay full price, often over $600, for a new phone. At least that's how I understand it.

?? I have Verizon--I better look into whatever's going on. --I don't have a lot of choice because Verizon is one of the only providers that gets good service at our lake house . . .

Sadly they have the best service lots of places but I do believe they have the worst customer service on earth! I have told two different CEOs that.

Thanks for the articles.  At least now I understand. We have both of our sons on our family plan and they have been telling me what Verizon is trying to push you into but I didn't understand since my dh and my phones are 'dumb.'  I guess I have some decisions to make also.  This is way too much money......

Oh too bad Nancy.  I guess F has a point that you would have to spend a lot more $$ to get a camera equal or better than what you have now.  And of course, you want better...right?  I don't know about the Verizon thing.  DH just got his new Droid phone and I an iPhone so I am ATT.  I will have to ask him what the deal is and if he is aware of it.

The verizon thing is bullcrap.. If anyone hhas verizon please pay attention to what's they are doing with the billing.. Some people may benefit, but my family will owe over $100 more a month. F, I had the first droid and upgraded to the third.. I'd recommend the droid 3 or droid 4 depending on what you want to pay. I love mine, and but the d4 is nice if you want a slightly newer one with 4g. Brother just upgraded to razr max and loves that if you don't need a keyboard.

Thanks Nancie and Carla. I thought the Razr Maxx sounded great but there has been a big problem with the screen shattering, sometimes for no reason, possible design flaw. People are threatening a class action.
