My little Charlie is only 10.5 weeks old and we took him to the vet at 8.5 weeks a day after we got him and they said he had ear mites!!! The vet gave us some drops called Octomite. How long does this medication take to work? We have given to to him every three days for nine days now and they are no better. His poor ears smell something fierce like nothing I have ever smelled before. He is happy most of the time but still does rub his little ears. If it has already killed teh mites how long until it starts healing in the ear and the smell goes away? Anything that I can do to make him more comfortable I would love to hear about!

Here's an article about ear mites:

According to this, it takes 2 to 4 weeks to completely get rid of ear mites.
I also looked up Otomite, and on two different websites, it said to use it once every 7 days. Of course, I would follow your vet's instructions if they are to use it more often.

I hope poor Charlie feels better soon.
Thank you for the reply. Yes the Doctor said 6-8 drops every three days so that is what we have been doing. I hope to get rid of the mites soon so Charlie can start to fully enjoy his new home and family.
Have a great doodle day!
Make sure you are getting the drops way down in the ear canal. This is a mistake most people make when putting drops in a dog's ear.
And I think you should massage the base of the ear to distribute the medication. When you do you should be able to hear it squishing around.
