Hi everyone,

Did any of your dogs ever pee when they seemed to be excited? Molly has to go out very often, so we figured she had a bladder infection. It turns out we were right, and she's now on her second round of Clavamox. (She also has vaginitis, which the vet says is a contributing factor.) She still has to go out pretty often (she's 4 1/2 months old), but it seems like it has helped a bit. However, when we first come home, even if we've only been gone an hour or two, she starts to drizzle when she sees us. And this is just in seconds because we take her out as soon as we get home. Or, if we're trying to get her outside right away when we're at our condo and a neighbor is out and tries to pet her before we get down to the grass, she will "leak" on the walkway!  Talk about doodle signs. I want one that says "Back off of the dog until she has peed!"

So do you all think this is tied to the bladder infection (she was also diagnosed with vaginitis), or is this a bigger problem that she might always have?  Please, please say it's the first. :-)

I look forward to your wisdom and experience.

My mom's cairn terrier did this the first year of her life.  It was excitement and she grew out of it.
Thanks. It's good to hear she'll probably grow out of it! It feels like having a newborn again. I remember asking everyone when we had my daughter--when can she lift her head by herself, when will she sleep through the night, etc etc!
Oliver did this till he was a little over a year old.  When he was a little one, it was really bad, but as he got older, he got better, he is now two yrs old and I cannot remember the last time he did this.  I guess maybe 6-8 mos ago?...As long as you have had her checked, and she is being followed by the vet, I don't think I would worry too much.  Sry to hear that she had a urinary and vaginal infection.  I am sure, (but not 100%,) that the infections do have some bearing on this too....she is adorable by the way, lol...
Thanks. I love hearing that you can't remember the last time he did it! That's a good place to be at, and it inspires me. Thanks for saying she's adorable. Likewise about Oliver!  I have to update her picture. She's growing by leaps and bounds.
Huff did this for a little while as a puppy. It was because he was so excited. It was only when he saw specific people though. Like his groomers or my grandma. Later I found out that it is physically impossible for him to pee when he sits so every time he saw somebody he really liked (mostly my grandma:)) I would make him sit and, no more drizzling!:) He eventually grew out of it and he doesn't have to sit anymore. I don't know if it is the same for girls but I know it worked for Huff so you might as well try... Good luck!:)
Thanks for the advice, and that's a great picture of Huff.  She can still pee while she sits unfortunately, but thanks for the suggestion.

Trixie does this too.     not everytime she sees someone but often enough.  She also has vaginitis.

Shes almost 4 months old.

Even if she has been let out within 10 minute she can get too excited & piddle a little.

I have found that if I pick her up- She doesnt pee.  So I often pick her up fast if someone stops over...my DD knows that if shes in my arms when she comes in the door- she gets to let her out quick. : )

Otherwise Trixie has been good & can go for 3-4 hours between having to go out to potty. We have only had one accident since her '2 weeks' here ( that is because I told dh if she sits at the door she has to go potty- He said- She just wants to go play outside & ignored her & me- And she had an accident)

I hope she out grows this soon.  I cant pick up a 40# or more dog every time someone stops over- LOL

That is a great suggestion. I will try to pick her up (as long as I can!). I'm thinking this will probably work. I hear you about hoping she grows out of it. The vet said we might have to let her go through one heat before spaying her because that seems to cure the vaginitis if it hasn't gone away on its own by that point. We'll see!  The funny thing is that she can go all night without peeing (while lying on our bed), and she can easily go 3-4 hours sometimes during the day, but other times, it's water works. :-)
I do plan on waiting to spay Trixie until after her 1st heat cycle.  I researched & weighed the Pros & Cons & Decided this was what I felt most comfortible with.
Lots of puppies do this and usually outgrow it.
Thanks!
Phoebe suffered from UTI's and vaginitis when she was a puppy, too!  She also has 'excitement pee' and, while better, it does still happen as she is 2 years old.  The interesting thing is that it happens only with certain people and dogs, not everyone and not every time.  Hopefully, Molly will outgrow the behavior.
