Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are getting a F1 Goldendoodle puppy in end of March or beginning of April. We are hoping to bring home a dark apricot pup. I know there is no guarantee on how the coats will end up, each Goldendoodle seems to be different! We love the shaggy wavy or straighter, ragdoll look! Do you have pictures that shows your Goldendoodles coat changes? What did your puppies coat look like at 7 or 8 weeks and how has he/she changed? I want to know what to look for. The mom is a dark apricot Golden Retriever and the dad is a cream standard Poodle. Thanks, yall! :))

I have an F1 labradoodle - so she's a little different than a goldendoodle. But she is apricot in color, and has turned into a nice shaggy lady.  If you tell the breeder what sort of look you're hoping for - they should be able to help you out and point you to the right puppy (providing it has the personality you're looking for!). We got Annie at 11 weeks, so I don't have any pictures of her at 7-8 weeks, but:

Annie is ADORABLE!!!! I love her coat and color!!! I talked with the breeder, who I think is an amazing lady. She actually picks out the puppy for us based on what we tell her we are looking for coat and temperament wise. She does temperament testing, so that's awesome. I would just like to know what to look for in the coat when we pick him or her up for the look we like. Thanks for posting, Jen!

Thank you - When I got Annie, I had no idea she would turn out so muppet-ish... She basically looked like a lab puppy with a few wispy hairs here and there.  The puppy coat is always going to be so much shorter than the adult coat.  Other members will probably post, but there are specific markings you can look for on the face to determine whether or not the dog will end up with the facial 'furnishings' of the beard, moustache, and eyebrows.  Some goldendoodles and labradoodles end up having no facial hair at all.  Welcome to the site - there is so much information here and good folks who can help!

There is a group called "From Pup to Adult" with lots of DK doodles' photos for you to look at.

Thanks!!

I have what you don't want.  A very curly, THICK, wild coat.  Notice how tight his curls were at 9 weeks.  And then just two weeks later, and now.  So, this will give you an idea.  Regardless, it is what is under that coat that counts.I'm keepin' this boy.

Be sure~ to look at temperament above all else.  A beautiful coat, does not make them beautiful and happy inside. I promise you.

But, I know how long it is to wait and want something. I hope this dog is everything you ever wanted

Thanks for posting your pictures! He sure is a cutie!!! I love all goldendoodles, so I would be happy either way. Temperament is definitely important. We are going to have our pup go to work with us each day. P.S - How do you keep spud's mouth from turning brown? Is there something  you do? Thanks again, Joanne :)

I've read that if you give your pup 'non-tap' water - it can help to prevent the fur staining - a bottled spring water or filtered water?  Some of the heavy metals (among other nasty things) in tap water aren't good for them anyway, so bonus if it helps keep their mouth clean.  I dont know if it's actually true, but it would make sense.

Nope. Stains are due to fungus. We actually have well water - so that blows the tap water theory. His beard dries quickly with this wooly coat I suppose. We have our moments where he does.

I worded that wrong - what I read was about city treated water could be a contributing factor in the beard staining - well water not included.  But if I read it on the internet, it must be true!?!  ;)

LOL  true Jen. It was on the internet and it must be true.  Huh, never head of the treated water issue. Just the red fungus issue ( harmless)

BAHAHA Oh Joanne these pics of Spud just make me giggle so much! I was hoping you'd chime in here. I'll always look for Spud on coat questions!  Love him!!!
