Hello-

Does anyone know if the FIB Mini Goldens temperment is different than the F1 Mini/Med.? Since the F1B are more poodle, do they act more like a poodle? Thanks in advance!

Base on our small experience of having owned two F1s and an F1B (not minis), and having been around many doodles, I would say that there is a lot of dog to dog variability, but generally I would say- yes. F1s tend to have more labby bahvior as a puppy if that means anything to you.

Hi Katie,

Any individual dog's temperament depends on many factors, including the temperaments of the individual parents. There is a huge variation of temperaments within any given breed, and within any one litter. And temperaments are not inherited like coat color. None of us has an exact 50/50 mix of our parents' temperaments, and the same is true of dogs. One puppy's (or child's) temperament may be just like the mother's, one may be just like the father, and others may be any combination of both. Within any one litter, there may be shy puppies, outgoing puppies, very energetic puppies and quieter puppies. They will not all have the same temperament, regardless of what percentage of poodle or any other breed is in their pedigree. The breed make-up of the grandparents doesn't really enter into it, except as it shaped the temperaments of the parents. And the puppies experiences with their litter before they go home also play a role.

Therefore, you need to look less at F1 versus F1B and more at finding a reputable, experienced breeder who chooses breeding dogs with sound temperaments, and who is good at matching puppies with the right family.

Also, I am wondering what "act like a poodle" means. All poodles don't act alike. If you have not spent a great deal of time around purebred poodles, you may have some misconceptions of their temperaments. :)

Thank you!

I completely agree with Karen. I would try not to get so hung up on the generations (unless allergies are a serious issue). Find a reputable breeder that takes good care of the dogs, chooses to breed only the best temperaments, and has good experience in matching pups with families. If you can trust your breeder and remain steadfast in your desire for a puppy with the right temperament as the FIRST priority, then you will not be disappointed regardess of color, generation, or size!

Not sure about F1b's but I have 2 medium F1's that are half brothers and they couldn't be more different, one is sweet and very laid back, we describe him as the perfect dog, his little brother on the other hand, is extremely high energy, has mild anxiety, food sensitivities, difficult to train, etc. Find a good breeder, some breed both F1's and F1b's and they will be your best source of information regarding their dogs temperament and what you might be able to expect in the puppies. Good luck!
