Jennifer, I hope you are doing better now. Take care of you too:)
Jennifer, it's certain types of broadleaf weed killers that have been linked to lymphoma in dogs (and cancer in people), not fertilizers. There is lots of info on-line about this, I can look for some links or anyone can search themselves...but be sure to look at FACT based websites, NOT chat forums or anecdotal stories in blogs and reviews.
This is the name of the weed killer: herbicide 2,4-D
Here's an older article from the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/1991/09/04/us/lawn-herbicide-called-cancer-r...
And a subsequent NY Times article from this past August about the FDA's refusal to ban the chemical: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/10/business/energy-environment/epa-d...
Facts and Info on herbicide 2,4-D from the Nat'l Pesticide Information Ctr:
Does Round Up havd 2,4-D in it?
2,4-D is banned for cosmetic use in Newfoundland., Round up is not banned so I would say no.
Thank you Donna
From what I was able to find, it does not. This article indicates that some weeds have become resistant to the active ingredient in Round-up and that in those cases, products that do contain 2,4-D may be more effective:

Cosmetic lawn use. LOL, I guess I should have explained that better. You can't have a pretty lawn.
Oh, I understood you perfectly, lol. Your explanation was fine, I was confirming it.
My problem is not with having a "pretty" lawn, but with having a lawn at all, which you can't really have w/o some form of fertilizing and weed-control, especially when you have a four legged freight-train tearing it up faster than it can grow. And if you don't have grass, you have mud. Mud outside = not so terrible; mud inside= very very bad for doodle mom's sanity.
